still they are not my own ideas <strong>and</strong> are surely in<br />

accordance with the previous practice."<br />

Finally, among the six doctrines, two have so far not<br />

been described. Why do we not talk more about the<br />

clear-light <strong>and</strong> maya-body? Outwardly, the maya-body<br />

is included in the first initiation growing yoga, while<br />

inwardly it is the wisdom-Buddha in the heart, practiced<br />

in the second <strong>and</strong> third initiation meditations. As for the<br />

light practices, we are concerned with it in all the other<br />

five doctrines. So we have no need to further discuss<br />

these two matters.<br />

A little more discussion is necessary, however, to show<br />

how the four sorrows of the Hinayana meditations have<br />

developed in the Vajrayana:<br />

In the third initiation—Great Lust (vajra-love) is<br />

developed.<br />

In the sleeping-yoga—Great Ignorance is developed<br />

(ignorance <strong>and</strong> sleep are akin).<br />

When the yidam is wrathful—Great Wrath is developed.<br />

In the growing-yoga of the first initiation—Great Pride<br />

is developed.<br />

What remains? Great Doubt; this we shall treat in the<br />

chapter on Chan.<br />

In the Tibetan Tantric practices, thus, we see that there<br />
