After the photograph had been taken, various<br />

matters relating to Vajrayana meditation were<br />

discussed with the yogi, including, quite<br />

appropriately, practices giving long life. Mr. Chen<br />

had previously called our attention to the fact that<br />

Dharma-instruments should at least have a long life<br />

<strong>and</strong> preferably also be able to choose at will a good<br />

birth. Bhante then mentioned that he had recently<br />

acquired a set of eight different religious paintings<br />

of Guru Padmasambhava. A discussion of the<br />

practices associated with this great Tantrika<br />

followed.<br />

As our talk did not begin until later than usual, due<br />

to the photo <strong>and</strong> conversation, so only half the<br />

chapter was completed during the evening.<br />

As we began, Mr. Chen said, "In recognition of<br />

Bhiksu Kantipalo's holy birthday, we have the<br />

Long-life Buddha Amitayus upon this shrine." Then<br />

he continued with the usual opening to our<br />

chapters:<br />
