In Buddhism there is no learning unconnected with<br />

practice, <strong>and</strong> everything learned in true Buddhism must<br />

be of a practical nature.<br />

If one likes this school <strong>and</strong> its approach to<br />

Enlightenment, then these meditations must accompany<br />

one's studies.<br />

F. Conclusion<br />

In our meditations of the Mahayana, the main practices<br />

were described in the last chapter <strong>and</strong> this one is really<br />

supplementary.<br />

The Hua Yan is very important <strong>and</strong> if this is learned, as<br />

well as the meditation on dependent origination in<br />

sunyata found in the last chapter, then these two will<br />

nicely complement each other.<br />

Du Shun, who was an emanation of Manjusri, read the<br />

Avatamsaka Sutra carefully many times, <strong>and</strong> from the<br />

description given there of the fifty-three powerful gurus<br />

with their supernormal powers <strong>and</strong> mystic wonders,<br />

with great wisdom reduced all this into some systematic<br />

principles. He took principles from phenomena<br />

described therein <strong>and</strong> got at the source of them, <strong>and</strong> the<br />
