purity, <strong>and</strong> their opposites arc all seen as sunyata with<br />

this mirror-like wisdom, which reflects their true nature.<br />

As far as the nature is concerned, all forms are both pure<br />

<strong>and</strong> void. Though they may appear to the discriminating<br />

mind (which has not yet realized sunyata) as wrathful or<br />

beautiful; to one who knows sunyata, no such notions<br />

remain: only the mirror-like wisdom appears.<br />

In brief, in the Vajrayana, where the function of<br />

salvation is stressed, the Great Poison of lust united with<br />

the Dharmakaya has some connecting function to save<br />

persons full of common lust.<br />

The four other poisons follow this same pattern of<br />

sublimations followed by functions, <strong>and</strong> the details need<br />

not be repeated here. (For definitions of the Great<br />

Poisons of Buddhahood, see Appendix I, Part Two, A, 3<br />

<strong>and</strong> 4).<br />

F. What Are the Realizations of Mahayana<br />

<strong>Meditation</strong>s?<br />

We have said that we only choose our meditations <strong>and</strong><br />

doctrines from the yanas of the first two "C"'s, but not<br />

from the last one (see Ch. IX, X), so we should not talk<br />

here of the ten states of the Bodhisattva path which are<br />

in the position of consequence for us, since they are still<br />

to be realized.<br />

There are two views in Tibet regarding the practice of<br />
