neither from sympathy nor from pain but from this kind<br />

of bodhicitta in sunyata. After Full Enlightenment, the<br />

Buddha himself recognized that every sentient being<br />

occupied the Dharmakaya, but their minds not being in<br />

this sunyata meditation, they failed to recognize this fact.<br />

So there emerges from the bodhicitta a great<br />

compassion for them. All this is within the first<br />

ring-wave of sunyata.<br />

b. Second Circle. From the bodhicitta as source <strong>and</strong><br />

with the realization of sunyata comes out a wave, a<br />

wave of the great compassion of the same entity. This<br />

compassion is only great <strong>and</strong> only produced in those<br />

who attain to sunyata; otherwise it is only the merciful<br />

mind with reference to specific beings. The attainment<br />

represented by this circle may be held while in sitting<br />

practice, but not when one is going about one's activities.<br />

This is the second becoming of sunyata.<br />

c. Third Circle. Acting out in one's life the first three<br />

paramitas in perfect relation to the three wheels of<br />

sunyata is possible for the nirmanakaya Buddhas alone.<br />

But the bodhisattva, who must do everything for beings,<br />

indeed should practice over a very long time. Hence the<br />

bodhisattva takes a very long time to reach the final<br />

attainment. Even a wisdom-being good at meditation<br />

practice, <strong>and</strong> already upon the third <strong>and</strong> fourth stages<br />

(bhumis—see end of chapter) must do everything for<br />

everyone well—accompanied by patience, <strong>and</strong> from so<br />

much activity, naturally, many obstructions are<br />
