SUPPLEMENTARY DETAILS OF THE SUNYATA<br />

MEDITATIONS<br />

Before meeting our Yogi at the "Five Leguminous<br />

Tree Hermitage" the listener had been manifesting<br />

considerable <strong>Buddhist</strong> activity in Kalimpong while<br />

the writer had been sitting quietly inspired by<br />

reading the late Venerable Xu Yun's "Song of the<br />

Skin Bag," just published in a <strong>Buddhist</strong> magazine.<br />

Upon arrival at the Hermitage, both were ready to<br />

hear Mr. Chen's words. He spoke as follows:<br />

A. Commentary<br />

Already we have talked upon four practical sections of<br />

the sunyata meditations. Now we come to some<br />

supplementary details of the nature of a commentary on<br />

the above.<br />

1. All the meditations we have spoken of belong to the<br />

meditations classified as Utterly Beyond the World (see<br />

Ch. III, C, 2, c).<br />

2. We should know with regard to our definition of<br />

<strong>Buddhist</strong> meditation (Ch. III, Conclusion): "... <strong>and</strong><br />

transform it from being abstract perception into a<br />

concrete inner realization whereby liberation from<br />

sorrows <strong>and</strong> false views (<strong>and</strong> the) embodiment of<br />
