Chen demonstrated two instances. He said,<br />

"Through the eye of a needle the greatest mountain<br />

may be seen complete with all its snows <strong>and</strong> rocks,"<br />

<strong>and</strong> then holding up one finger, he emphasized,<br />

"<strong>and</strong> this is the height of the highest of peaks!" Then<br />

he spoke a little on the famous <strong>Buddhist</strong> simile of<br />

Mount Meru <strong>and</strong> the grain of mustard seed. That<br />

little seed contains neither more nor less sunyata<br />

within it than the whole of the highest mountain at<br />

the center of the <strong>Buddhist</strong> cosmos; that peak<br />

contains all voidness <strong>and</strong> in it all the<br />

Dharma-nature is to be found.<br />

Upon another occasion, the yogi related the words<br />

of an ancient Dharma master who answered the<br />

question of a Confucian scholar <strong>and</strong> governor of<br />

that province, puzzled about the same enigma of the<br />

mustard grain <strong>and</strong> Mount Meru, in this way: "You<br />

have studied <strong>and</strong> remembered so many books all of<br />

which could not be stored in one room, but you have<br />

managed to store them all in your small skull.<br />

How?"<br />

3. <strong>Meditation</strong>s on the Karma of Great Compassion<br />

Coming out of Sunyata<br />

a. Seventh meditation. Following from one's sunyata<br />

meditations, meditate upon the victorious significance<br />

of the bodhicitta. We know three kinds of bodhi-heart,<br />

the first two of which are also possessed by the<br />
