"As dew": Dew is like a bubble, quickly comes <strong>and</strong><br />

quickly gone. When it has happened, it is clear <strong>and</strong> wet,<br />

but when it dries, there is nothing remaining. Even<br />

when we see cleanness <strong>and</strong> wetness, its fullness of<br />

conditions, these contain within them the possibility of<br />

drying—<strong>and</strong> this is its void nature. This is a good<br />

example for impermanence related to sunyata.<br />

b. Sixth meditation: <strong>Meditation</strong>s according to the Ten<br />

Mystic Gates of Hua Yan. These meditations are suited<br />

to skilled practitioners <strong>and</strong> are not for new students;<br />

only the former can gain through them the<br />

underst<strong>and</strong>ing of mystic causation. They have been<br />

established by the Venerable Du Shun, a great<br />

enlightened monk <strong>and</strong> an emanation of Manjusri. We<br />

will talk about his teachings in the next chapter.<br />

These meditations upon mystic causation, if practiced to<br />

attainment level, are productive of many supernormal<br />

powers. Why was it that the Buddha possessed such<br />

ability with these? Because no subtle fetters remained to<br />

block their development as he attained to the full length,<br />

depth, <strong>and</strong> breadth of sunyata <strong>and</strong> all mystic conditions<br />

had fully gathered in him.<br />

In order that the reader might at this stage<br />

underst<strong>and</strong> a little of what is meant by this term, Mr.<br />
