a one at that time is certainly first among all beings in<br />

the world.<br />

2. Realizations Related to the Three Liberations<br />

(vimoksa)<br />

If the first <strong>and</strong> third meditations are accomplished, then<br />

one will gain the signless liberation, because one does<br />

not seize the body as a gross outward sign nor grasp at<br />

the mind as a subtle inward sign. The result to be<br />

expected of the practice of the second meditation is the<br />

liberation of wishlessness, since one has concentrated<br />

upon the painfulness of feelings, so that pleasant<br />

sensations are seen for what they are <strong>and</strong> no attachment<br />

arises for them. Voidness is the liberation gained from<br />

the successful meditation on all dharmas as having no<br />

self.<br />

3. Other Realizations<br />

If one always meditates on the four mindfulness<br />

practices one will receive:<br />

a. Increased faith in the Dharma;<br />

b. Power to keep the sila very well;<br />

c. Knowledge of the truth of impermanence;<br />

d. A real renunciation;<br />

e. Diligence to practice always <strong>and</strong> not to be like<br />

counterfeit Bodhisattvas going here <strong>and</strong> there; <strong>and</strong><br />
