iii. Vajrayana<br />

Defilements—both jneya <strong>and</strong> klesa—are of two kinds,<br />

acquired (already destroyed in Mahayana meditations)<br />

<strong>and</strong> innate, <strong>and</strong> the latter are very hard to meditate away.<br />

While the former are psychical, the latter pertain to the<br />

body, <strong>and</strong> it is very difficult to still the subtle<br />

movements they cause in the mind with their ultra-fine<br />

energies. By the Mahayana teachings it will indeed take<br />

a long time to do this; it is possible however, by the<br />

methods of practice given in the Third Initiation of<br />

Anuttarayoga, to rid oneself completely of these very<br />

subtle obstacles. This is done by the discovery of the<br />

innate wisdom, only possible in the Vajrayana.<br />
