The outermost ring is Chan, representing the<br />

Dharmakaya or Dharmadhatu.<br />

Within this are two circles containing the four<br />

classifications of principles on which this talk will be<br />

based: hearing, thinking, <strong>and</strong> practicing wisdom, <strong>and</strong><br />

realization. Inside this are classified some practical <strong>and</strong><br />

important principles related to meditation.<br />

The arrow pointing outward indicates the centrifugal<br />

relation discussed in the last chapter, the bearing of<br />

meditation itself upon individual principles.<br />

The arrow pointing inward st<strong>and</strong>s for the centripetal<br />

force dealt with in this chapter, where different factors<br />

are considered first <strong>and</strong> in relation to the central<br />

meditation, thus emphasizing the importance of the<br />

latter.<br />

C. HOW THESE PRINCIPLES CENTER UPON<br />

MEDITATION<br />

In the last chapter we discussed preparation <strong>and</strong> the<br />

centrifugal force of the central meditations, which affect<br />

the particulars necessary to our initial development.<br />

Today, the reverse process is taken up <strong>and</strong> we will<br />

discuss the principles <strong>and</strong> how they center upon<br />

meditation. This is a good way to see their importance.<br />

All these factors may be classified under the above four<br />
