The higher the goal desired the more preparation<br />

necessary. The more preparation established the higher<br />

one attains. The sounder the preparation, the earlier one<br />

will gain.<br />

The Dharmakaya is already always prepared in anyone<br />

<strong>and</strong> in any place, but we must be always awake to it <strong>and</strong><br />

making ready by removing obstacles. We should always<br />

be ready.<br />

The passing of spring <strong>and</strong> summer asks us: "Are you<br />

ready?" Autumn comes, with yellow leaves dropping,<br />

blown down by even slight breaths of wind. They too<br />

are saying, "Are you ready?"<br />

Mr. Chen said in a trembling voice: "And have you<br />

heard the crying of neighbors over a dead child or<br />

an old person? In our ears their crying repeats,<br />

'Ready, Ready?' When black hair becomes gray, it<br />

only questions us, 'Are you ready?' All our<br />

surroundings say this to all of us all the time but<br />

who takes notice? People are always ready for<br />

living but not for dying though it is sure that<br />

everyone must die!"<br />

"Now I shall give you a little poem in Chinese." The<br />

yogi closed his eyes <strong>and</strong> sang this poem with great<br />

compassion:<br />

"O Lord, why shouldst Thou keep me<br />
