The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
Today we exalt and praise with glad thanksgiving (words taken from the Sequence) the true Body and Blood of Jesus, our Redeemer
and Savior, under the appearance of bread and wine. St. Paul in the First Letter to the Corinthians gives us the words that bring to our
altar the actual, definite, authentic, genuine, REAL presence of God among us. “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance
of me…This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” We cannot understand
it or see it taking place but with faith we can say with St. Thomas Aquinas,
Here beneath these signs hidden
Priceless things to sense forbidden,
Signs, not things are all we see:
Blood is poured and flesh is broken,
Yet in either wondrous token
Christ entire we know to be. (Sequence)
How good God is to give himself to us. Knowing that at every Mass we can receive our Lord, body, blood, soul, and divinity, it is a
wonder why we aren’t running to get to Church! We gather as the Body of Christ to worship and to receive the Body and Blood of
Christ. This is God’s greatest gift. It is the closest, personal relationship we can ever attain with Jesus here on earth.
Of all the beautiful and wondrous things God has created he chose, in fact, longs with a perfect love to give his entire self to us in
Holy Communion. God does not hold anything back. Should we? St. Francis of Assisi wrote, “Hold back nothing of yourselves for
yourselves, that he who offers himself totally to you may receive you totally.” If we believe that Jesus is there waiting for, willing
for us to come to him, I wonder how anyone could easily excuse themselves from attending the banquet that has been prepared for
us.
In the Book of Revelation (3:20) we are told, “I [Jesus] stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I
will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with me.” Not receiving Communion because you haven’t been to the Sacrament
of Reconciliation? Don’t let your heart be “locked”. Go receive the gift of God’s forgiveness so you can satiate your hunger on Jesus
Himself.
When we receive the Eucharist with an open, humble heart we open ourselves to be transformed more into the likeness of God. The
more we are transformed the more others see Christ in us because we see Christ in others and we go out to “feed” them by our loving
actions.
This feast of the Body and Blood of Christ not only celebrates the gift of the Real Presence in the Eucharist but celebrates the
Church, the Body of Christ. Let us go out and be Eucharist to one another.

Totus Tuus is a diocesan catechetical summer youth
program whereby seminarians and college students
travel throughout the summer proclaiming the Gospel
through Catechetical instruction, Mass, Confession,
games, fun and more!

our pastor, Fr. Greg. He will
celebrate each Mass on June 8-9 and refreshments will be
served after each liturgy in the Church Tower Room and
Narthex.
Fr. Gregory Rothfuchs was ordained a priest of
the Diocese of Joliet in 1995 and has served at several
parishes in DuPage and Will counties. He did his general
theology studies at the Gregorian University in Rome
(Jesuit) and then specialized for a year in liturgical theology
at the Pontifical Liturgy Institute in Rome
(Benedictine). He became pastor of St. Paul the Apostle
Parish in 2007, leaving this June to begin shepherding at
St. Joseph Church in Lockport.

business school education preferred and ability to maintain
confidentiality is required. Must have over five years previous
administrative/secretarial experience working on an executive
level, and a solid working experience with computer programs.

Assistant Program Director for Young Adult
and Youth Ministry
The Diocese of Joliet is seeking an Assistant Program Director
in Young Adult and Youth Ministry. The Assistant Program
Director will assist with the administration of youth ministry
and young adult ministry, will have primary responsibility for
campus ministry efforts at one non-Catholic campus and
young adult efforts in that same area of the diocese. This staff
person will participate in the visioning, creation and development
of diocesan and regional (multi-parish) programs and
other forms of outreach to junior high and high school students,
college students and young adults in the Diocese of Joliet.
This staff person will provide consultation, training and
evaluative services to parish staff, leadership, coordinators of
ministry, ministry teams, leaders and clusters as directed.
Bachelor’s degree required preferably in theology, pastoral
ministry or a related field. Must be bi-lingual in English and
Spanish. Must have previous diocesan experience, or at least
three years of Parish experience required. Must be a practicing
