Training Association Report December 31, 2014. Northern Gateway Business Summit Northern Gateway Pipelines sponsored the Northern Gateway Business Summit in Prince George on October 21st and 22nd. This conference was designed to provide information about Northern Gateway’s supply chain strategies, requirements and opportunities. It also provided an opportunity to network with Contractors and representatives from the different Aboriginal Communities that may be involved with the pipeline projects. Training Coordinators Brothers Jeff Gorham and Randy Grisewood attended the trade fair portion of the conference. Participating in the conference provided us opportunities to speak with those in attendance about the benefits of using unionized labour. Signatory employers, Formula Contractors and OJ Pipelines delivered presentations at the conference. During their presentations, they spoke of how proud they are to have agreements with the Operating Engineers and if any of the non-union companies in attendance wanted to find out how they could have access to the same skilled labour that they should speak to them. We should all be very proud for receiving such commendation at such an event. This is truly a reflection of the skill and dedication of our members that have worked for these companies over the years. Congratulations to all of you who took the time to “Rise Above”, as it is your efforts that have given the Operating Engineers the great reputation we have. Annual pensioners’ banquet As a Trustee of both your Pension and Benefits Plans, I had the pleasure of attending the recent Annual Pensioners’ Banquet. This year it was held again at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver. It was great to see the retirees, having contributed so much to the organization over the years, now enjoying their hard-earned pensions, getting together with old work mates and reminiscing about the jobs they worked on in the past. Once again the staff did a great job organizing this event. On behalf of the Training Association staff and your Board of Trustees, I would like to wish all of the membership and their families a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, safe and prosperous New Year. Work Safe. Keep those old boots working. Donate your used gear. Your used work gear can help a worker in need. Don’t throw it out! Make a donation. Each IUOE Local 115 District Office is accepting used construction and work gear. It’s donated to the Burnaby Association for the South East Side and distributed to workers who will make good use of it. BRING YOUR DONATIONS TO YOUR IUOE DISTRICT OFFICE. 20 News December 2014
