Ghulam Mohammad A Fecto, the founder of Fecto group was known as Ghulam<br />
Mohammad Adamjee in East <strong>Pakistan</strong> but while setting up the business in West<br />
<strong>Pakistan</strong>, now <strong>Pakistan</strong>, he dropped the name Adamjee in fovour of the acronym<br />
Fecto and thus from Ghulam Mohammad Adamjee he has become Ghulam<br />
Mohammad A Fecto.<br />
Fecto is a Memon group and Ghulam Mohammad A Fecto had migrated from<br />
Bombay to Dhaka in 1947 where he set up Far East Commercial and Trading<br />
Company dealing among other things, in electrical and home appliances. It<br />
entered into a joint venture, Fecto-Yamagen Electronics Ltd, with Toshiba in<br />
1961 for the manufacture of Radios in East <strong>Pakistan</strong>. At the time of birth of<br />
Bengladesh he was managing director and director in at least ten companies<br />
including Fecto Ltd, Fecto-Yamagen Electronics , Dacca Radio Electronic<br />
Company, Fecto Agencies Ltd, Chaudary Fishing Company, Fecto Industries and<br />
Fecto Trading.<br />
In the 1970 while other Memon groups were switching from industries to trading<br />
Fecto decided to venture into manufacturing by acquiring Adamjee Sugar Mills<br />
changing its name to Fecto Sugar Mills, followed by the setting up of another<br />
sugar mill and a tractor manufacturing unit. Presently the group has 14<br />
companies in its folder including three listed on KSE.<br />
