PRE-PARE ® Herbicide Optimizes Winter Wheat Yield Potential by
Controlling Early-Season Brome Species
Growers who focus on early weed removal see positive return on investment at harvest
CARY, N.C. (August 6, 2013) – Researchers and growers alike will tell you: the key to a
successful winter wheat crop is taking out brome grasses early.
Early season bromes, if not controlled, can significantly reduce winter wheat yield potential. For
example, independent research shows that downy brome emerging within 14 days of a winter
wheat crop can reduce yield by 10 to 20%.
“We want growers to know the importance of removing problem weeds from their winter wheat
crops early to achieve the highest yielding crops possible,” said Chad Effertz, Herbicide
Development Manager, North Dakota, Arysta LifeScience. “To help these growers’ crops get the
strongest start possible, PRE-PARE ® gives winter wheat the best defense against yield-robbing
weeds, especially bromes.”
PRE-PARE Burndown Herbicide, from Arysta LifeScience, allows growers to seed earlier and
establish a winter wheat crop that gets a head start on the management of annual weeds.
Specifically, PRE-PARE with glyphosate controls existing and early emerging bromes for up to
three weeks, which significantly reduces the overall brome population, helping the winter wheat
crop to establish a strong stand.
“With PRE-PARE, winter wheat gets up to 21 days control of brome grasses, along with
superior crop selectivity,” Effertz added. “This early-season protection helps lower any
uncertainty growers have with weeds in winter wheat as they monitor the weather and other
factors that ultimately affect their return on investment.”
