Computing Scale / PS6L
Application: Weight classifier, postal/shipping scale for determining postal charges. The scale will be marked "WEIGHT
CLASSIFIER FOR POSTAL USE." The weight classifier rounds weight values up to the next scale division in normal operation and
in testing.
Identification: The required information appears on an adhesive badge under the platter attached to the base of the scale.
Sealing: The scale is sealed by means of a wire security seal threaded through a screw in an access platter that covers the setup
features.
Operation: Multi-interval and multi-range features are optional. Both features are protected behind the security seal. When set-up as
a multi-interval or multi-range scale the division size and range will change division sizes automatically as appropriate.
Test Conditions: This certificate supersedes Certificate of Conformance 98-018A2 and is issued to include multiple range capability
in the Standard Features and Options Box. The multiple range feature was evaluated in an NTEP laboratory. The previous test
condition is listed below as reference.
Certificate of Conformance Number 98-018A2: This certificate supersedes Certificate of Conformance 98-018A1 and is issued to
clarify that Range 3 can be selected for a maximum of 149 to 150 lb. Previous test data and information supplied by the company was
reviewed. No additional testing was required.
Certificate of Conformance Number 98-018A1: This certificate supersedes Certificate of Conformance 98-018 and is issued to add
a second range of capacities to the existing device. Previous test data and information supplied by the company was reviewed. No
additional testing was required.
Certificate of Conformance Number 98-018: The emphasis of the evaluation was on the device design, operation, and compliance
with influence factor and marking requirements. Several increasing/decreasing load and shift tests were performed with a power
supply of 100 VAC or 130 VAC applied to the scale. The scale was tested over a temperature range of 10 C to 40 C
(50 F to 104 F). A load of approximately one-half scale capacity was applied to the scale 100 800 times. The scale was tested
periodically during this time.
Evaluated By: A. McCoy (OH) 98-018, M. Kelley (OH) 98-018A3
Type Evaluation Criteria Used: NIST, Handbook 44: Specifications, Tolerances and Other Technical Requirements for Weighing
and Measuring Devices, 2010. NCWM, Publication 14: Weighing Devices, 2010.
