The repetition of the word 'and terra nullius they called it' keeps bringing the poem<br />
back to the point that it was not this - a thoughtful well-written poem.<br />

She<br />
She sits on the new blue carpet<br />
With her back against the wall under the window,<br />
Looking close down to her novel<br />
With those small black words covering the page.<br />
Lifting her head<br />
She tells me to quiet my self talk<br />
And in a heartbeat<br />
I am back in the classroom.<br />
She, the teacher continues to read on with the novel.<br />
I ignore her<br />
As I am trying to write.<br />
To have freedom, time to myself.<br />
To do something I can do.<br />
The sound of the fan throbs in my ear.<br />
I am silent.<br />

Hospital corners,<br />
Oh, oh that harsh white-<br />
Antiseptic hung dry in the air<br />
Immersed.<br />
Here, nothing can remain.<br />
