All done and dusted.<br />
They took his name.<br />
Gave him a number.<br />
Took his dignity.<br />
Gave him a cell.<br />
And there he waited.<br />
While they shuffled up their papers.<br />
And then did it again.<br />
And again.<br />
No worries mate.<br />
She'll be apples.<br />
I mean, fair dinkum, right?<br />
Boat people are not people.<br />

A year after they let him in here,<br />
He draped a flag around him.<br />
Like everyone else did.<br />
Australia Day.<br />
He smiled.<br />
The sun smiled.<br />
But everyone else didn't.<br />
Instead they ripped the flag from him.<br />
Laughed and jeered.<br />
Told him to go back home.<br />
And he nodded a lonely tear down his face,<br />
Singing something inside,<br />
'For those who've come across the seas,<br />
We've boundless plains to share.'<br />
His heart in his hand.<br />
He dropped it on the street.<br />
One more present.<br />
For the lucky country.<br />
