The consonants and vowels,<br />

creating the words.<br />

The words,<br />

strung together into sentences.<br />

The sentences,<br />

dancing on the page to create poignant thoughts.<br />

A hundred per page.<br />

A thousand per book.<br />

Millions all together on a shelf.<br />

The possibilities scream out though the comparative calm.<br />

And they wonder why I like it here.<br />

Judge’s Comment<br />

This insightful offering made me smile, set as it is in one of a wordsmith’s<br />

favourite places – the library. Letters become words, words form<br />

sentences, until we have books, hundreds of them. And in such a quiet<br />

setting, so many possibilities screaming to be heard. So very clever, but<br />

nothing more clever than the final line which says so very much about the<br />

poet’s love for the place. A gem.<br />

The crown of thorns on her head<br />

Gazing out at the ocean with her moon pool eyes<br />

Awaiting her next sail.<br />

Through the horizon the vessel comes
