declaring protected areas are still very modest. Only 0.1% of <strong>the</strong> Latin American and Caribbean exclusive<br />

ec<strong>on</strong>omic z<strong>on</strong>e (EEZ) enjoys some form of protecti<strong>on</strong>, and most of <strong>the</strong> 255 marine reserves are not<br />
