Junior Report 2009 him to play all games but he always dug deep when he played. Jordan Dart was our Centre Half until he moved to Tasmania midway during the season. Jordan anchored the centre field and was able to get the ball through to the forwards and set up goal scoring opportunities. Max McInnes took over his role and often showed some clever stick skills to get past the opposition. Max also played Glebe Mens this year and that experience came through on the field. Dion Condack was a second year player and showed true commitment in training and in games. He was hard on the ball and was always a pain for the opposing team – just like a good half should be! Dion also played a number of games for our Under 17 and Mens teams. Charlie Schacher, another half, developed his skills during the season and was able to transfer the ball well after making a strong tackle. Our fullbacks had plenty of work this year and even in the tough games never gave up. Joe Laycock used his height and reach to get in the face of attacking forwards and often dispossessed far more experienced players. Harry Doughty took on anyone and everyone and if he missed the first tackle, would always chase after the ballrunner to try and break down the play. Ed Noller enjoyed his hockey this year and pulled off some great saves in the goal mouth. Finally, our goalie Maddy Stewart was a real inspiration at the back. She made some amazing saves and always encouraged the field players to keep going and not give up. Maddy played in our Glebe Womens teams and is a real asset to the club. Although a tough season, the players and coaches have gained a lot of experience and there have been many fun times. Thanks to Nathan Dart and Matt Redenbach for coaching and Alan Doughty for managing the team. Also thanks to Alan, Tom and Rob for umpiring during the season. Well, what a season we have had. Our first game was way back in March and we played our last game, the Grand Final in September. It is amazing that we started 7 months ago. During those months we have seen our little band of players transform into a team that loved to play hockey together. Just in case you were wondering, officially we had 9 girls and 5 boys. I have always said that I do not coach boys and girls, I coach hockey players and this team proved me right. Our season statistics are shown below. We were only one of two teams to finish with a goal difference in the positive. Our nearest rival below us had a goal difference of -6 and were 12 points shy of our mark. To all the parents and support crews, well done. Our game in the final was our finest hour, although we did not win. The lead up during the week could not have been worse. Six days from the big game and Elena Sheard had her finger broken during a school yard soccer game, one down. Bad luck ah. Look out, more to come. At the end of training while pushing out corners, Emma Millington twisted the wrong way and dislocated her knee cap, two down with 4 days to go.
