The Council of International Schools University Tour took place at ISS on November 9th with representatives from 17 colleges/universities participating. The universities were quite diverse and hailed from the US, Canada, Monaco, England, Japan, and Austria. Students and families were able to hear presentations on university application processes, how students are selected, planning for campus life, and how to finance college. Students and families also were able to meet with the individual representatives to discuss career/ major interests, academic programs and internship opportunities, as well as whether a given university might be a “good fit.” Overwhelmingly, the representatives were impressed with the students at ISS. Without a single exception, they could not get over how mature, intelligent, and thoughtful our students are. One of the many services offered by the High School Counseling Office is the maintenance of a list of names of parents who are both willing and able to serve as tutors to ISS students in need of additional academic support. As our demand for tutors is greater than our supply, we would like to invite parents with backgrounds in core academic areas - especially in math and science - to join our pool of mentors/tutors. If you are interested in assisting please contact Dr. Kim Caroline-Strange at 51 55 43 13 or KCaroline- Strange@isstavanger. no The Counseling Office provides a list of area tutors as a courtesy to ISS students and their parents. All scheduling and private tuition arrangements are the sole responsibility of the tutor and student. They shared that ISS will now be included as one of the schools to visit during upcoming CIS-Scandinavian Tours. We were also fortunate that the fog lifted that day and the representatives were able to visit the harbor and Gamle Stavanger. They also chose the Three Swords as the site for their Tour photo. Universities in attendance were: American Intercontinental University, London; Creighton University; Grinnell College; International University of Monaco; Johns Hopkins University; Marist College; Marymount College, Palos Verdes; MODUL University, Vienna; Parsons The New School for Design; Ritsumeikan University, Japan; St. Francis Xavier University, Canada; St. Olaf College; State University of New York College at Plattsburgh; Thompson Rivers University; University of California, Davis; and Whitworth University. 8 · The Informer 23 November 2011 www.isstavanger.no
