International Friendship Group – SWEC – YEPA Ms Christine Kemp CKemp@isstavanger.no Congratulations and thanks to the following students who took part in SWEC’s sponsored walk in September: Lucca, Sofia, Olivia, Abby, Victoria, Elena, Rebecca N, Sophia, Payton, Chase, Tsolaye, Efe, Rebecca W, Matteo, Michael, Lisa, Colin, Tiree, Allison, Luke, Robert, Val, Maren, Toby, Kai, Steffeny. Together they raised an astounding kr 7894 for the Marine Conservation Society! Well done!!! of Serendipity. £600 will be sent to OXFAM for their new campaign “GROW – to fix the food system, forever”. See OXFAM’s website for more information. Thank you to everyone who helped in any way to make the UN Concert such a huge success. We had wonderful performances from students and beautiful music from the Youth Orchestras from The Netherlands and Stavanger. Kr 6000 has been sent to SOS Barnebyer for their new project in Tanzania. See the letter below from SOS Barnebyer Stavanger. ”The project ”Casa Rogaland” in the new SOS Barneby in Peru is now fully financed. It will have its official opening in November. We volunteers are quite happy to reach the goal (NOK 900 000). Two of our volunteers will join the opening (they pay themselves) and I will send you pictures. After all, ISS was part of it!! So, now the group has committed itself to a new project! SOS Barnebyer is building a new barneby in Tanzania. So we will be responsible for financing a house in this barneby. This time it will cost NOK 1.5 million including 3 years operations. We give ourselves 3 years to fund-raise.” Another ‘Thank You’ goes to everyone who contributed goodies to sell at the recent performances Looking ahead you will see that IFG and SWEC will continue to be very busy during the next few weeks. Starting on Tuesday 22nd November SWEC will be selling Christmas cards during lunch recesses. Each pack costs kr 20 and contains 4 or 5 cards. The money raised is sent to the Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys and is used to finance riding lessons for children with special needs in five riding centres in the UK. SWEC have been supporting this charity for many years and hope that they can again raise enough money to adopt the 20 donkeys on their list. Riding lessons using gentle, friendly donkeys benefit special needs children in many ways and we read many success stories in the newsletters we receive. Also at this time of year some primary school classes make wonderful Gingerbread Houses which they donate to be raffled by SWEC. Raffle tickets cost kr 10 for three – make sure you buy some! Be sure to come along for great bargains. We have thousands of good books for adults and children and those who are selling in the basement will have a wide variety of goods on offer. This is always a very popular sale so do come along and buy!
