This is a regular school day so we will take attendance
as usual and the buses will run at the end of the day
so picking up students will work just like any other
school day.
IGCSE Information Session
On Thursday 8th December between 3.30
p.m. – 4.15 p.m. in the High School Library we
(Gareth Jones – High School Principal & Lynn
Park Exams Coordinator) will be holding and
information session for parents who are interested
in finding out more about the International General
Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). This
meeting is in addition to the choices evening that
we hold later in the year and during the meeting
we will be seeking to outline the following:
• Introduction – what is IGCSE?
• Who should take IGCSE examinations?
• Some practical information about IGCSE
examinations at ISS.
• Question and answer session.
In addition to this in this month’s informer there will
be some general information about the IGCSE at ISS.
MS / HS Band and Choir Concert
This year the MS/HS band concert takes place on
Wednesday 23rd November and the MS/HS choir
concert that takes place on Thursday 8th December.
Both events take place in the ISS theatre and start at
19:00. We look forward to seeing you there.
The Student Council have their Winter Formal
coming up this Saturday 3rd December at 7:00pm
( Venue to be confirmed) usual school rules apply and
students must arrive between 7:00 and 8:00pm.
I would like to take this opportunity to make you
aware of a number of up events coming up in the New
Year:
High School Round Table
On Thursday 19th January time at 3:30pm in the
MS/HS Library we will hold our High School round
table. Whilst I am more than happy to respond to
your questions on the day itself if there are any areas
that you know you would like to bring up it I will have
the opportunity to provide a more detailed response.
In round tables that follow I will try to rotate the
timings around so that parents whose schedules fit
best to mornings, afternoons or evenings will have a
greater opportunity to attend. Last year the round
table took place in the morning So this year we will
shoot for an after school slot.
IB Information Evening Thursday 26th January
between 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Whilst this evening is particularly aimed 10th grade
parents and students all are welcome. It is never too
early to start getting yourself informed in regard to
course, university and career related choices. During
the evening we will lead you through the basics of
the IB Diploma Programme and the specifics of
how we do it here at ISS. There will be informative
handouts and time for questions. In addition to this
10th graders will also be having a Careers Advisory
Sessions with Dr Kim Caroline-Strange, the High
School Counselor, during class sessions at this time
in order to ensure that they are as well informed as
possible whilst making these important decisions.
College Night Thursday 9th February 6:00pm
to 8:00pm
Whilst this event is aimed at 11th graders again is
open to any student and parent who would like to
learn more about the process of choosing, applying to
and securing a good university place—especially in
the UK or North America
Grade 8 to 9 Transition Meeting – Thursday 16th
February 18:00 to 20:00 – (Theatre)
This is an opportunity for 8th grade students and
parents to find out about the high school programmes
and make initial grade 9 choices.
Grade 9 to10 Information Afternoon – Thursday
1st March 15:30 – 16.30
This event is somewhat smaller than the others as
the majority of the choices made in grade 9 carry
through into grade 10. However, we have scheduled
an afternoon for students and parents to clarify any
questions you may have.
