Partner
A cold and bitter
wind welcomed
Romsey Wasps to
the Heathens ground
on Sunday 28th
November.
The pitch, after a
number of pitch
inspections was
deemed playable and
the game kicked off
just after 11:00.
Heathens U12’s were
ready for a tough
match against Romsey,
a team they had not
played for a while.
Romsey made a quick
start to the match,
with some good runs
and strong scrums.
Heathens held their
own and fought well
under continued
pressure from Romsey
who eventually broke
through the lines
and scored their first
try inside the first 7
minutes.
Heathens kept their
nerve and more
importantly their
focus and quickly
fought back with some
strong runs and some
excellent ball handling.
Moving the ball along
the backs, Heathens
broke with a massive
push over the try line
to equalise and really
set the game alight.
Parents from both
sides provided
constant words of
encouragement from
the sidelines and
Heathens continued
their spirited
performance against a
much heavier Romsey
squad. Heathens soon
had the measure of
the scrum and won
ball on a number of
occasions. Training
techniques kicked in
as Heathens moved
the ball from scrum
back down the line.
Taking advantage
of any loose balls
Heathens came back
time and time again.
“Together & Strong”
this summed up the
U12’s performance in
a thrilling 15:15 draw.
Well Done to all who
played!!

opportunities.

VOLUNTEERING AT
FAREHAM HEATHENS
Did you know that your club is run
completely by volunteers?
From Andy Metcalfe who constantly
supports the club with his
engineering expertise, to Maxine
Jennings-Patrick who manages
the finances with the able support
of Stan Copley. We have over 20
coaches and assistant coaches
who brave all weathers to inspire
and train our players, we have 9
Managers who organise, chase and
communicate to ensure the right
people get to the right place at the
right time.
being Ian Warwick who generously
gave the club his time and his van to
ensure we managed to transport the
new tables that we see in the club
today.
As a Club we are committed to
getting as many people as possible
‘doing their bit’ to help the club to
develop. There are opportunities
to be trained as coaches or first
aiders as well as numerous other
opportunities to help e.g. we always
need help in the kitchen – and trust
us – this can be fun!
Whatever your skill, whatever your
interest area – I’m sure we can use
your help!

On top of this there are those that
oversee Child protection (Viren), our
facilities (Roger), our memberships
(Caron and Max), our fixtures (Dave
“Fixtures” Green) plus others who
arrange social events, parents who
kindly help out in the kitchen and
many more willing to offer their own
time for nothing to help our club.
We are lucky enough to have over
36 people fulfilling formal roles in
the club - an excellent start and
testament to a volunteering ethos
that is really something to be proud
of – and we want your help to build
on it!
Commitments can be long term e.g.
a formal role in the club, or short
term “just let me know if you need
any help” – an example of the latter

“always happy to help when you
need it!”.
We are also looking for a Volunteer
Co-ordinator – a role in the club that
will take approx 2 hours per week.
This role is focussed on establishing
the talent that we have in the club
and identifying people who want to
do more! If you are interested in the
role again email myself.
There really is a special feeling of
satisfaction to be had from being
part of a team that is committed to
making our club the best it can be!

CLUB SEAL OF
APPROVAL
Fareham Heathens RFC has
gone through a lot of change
during the last few months, and
part of this change is to really
concentrate on our development
plan. To assit the planning the
club is striving for Whole Club
Seal of Approval recognition
from the RFU.
Three years ago the club
succesfully gained the Mini &
Youth Seal of Approval. This
means that the club provides
traning, coaching, facilities etc
in line with the RFU’s standards.
Fareham Heathens is one of a
TESCO & SAINSBURY
VOUCHERSS
Thanks to all who helped collect
Tesco & Sainsbury vouchers
during the summer.
Despite our late commitment
to the scheme we managed to
few clubs locally to have earned
this accolade.
We have already held a few
workshops to help identify
where our priorities lie in the
short and mid term, and this
aids us with our development
planning.
As a club we will be focussing on
5 major areas:
People
Member Services
Member Welfare
Community Links
Club Management
There are many items in each
strand and it will take time to
tackle all aspects. We certainly
need more help achieving the
change we desire, so please let
us know if you are able to assist.
We will keep you informed of
the club’s progress.

RFU GRAND DRAW
We are still looking for more
volunteers to help sell tickets
for the draw. We have allocated
nearly 200 books out to members,
and if all these are sold it will raise
a whopping £900 for the club. So
far we have collected £250. still a
way to go. So please keep selling!
