CHILD CARE FACILITY MANAGEMENT<br />

• <strong>The</strong> building must meet local legal requirements and or the appropriate Nike standards,<br />

whichever is the highest standard.<br />

• All hot surfaces must be insulated so that children cannot come in contact with them.<br />

• Electrical outlets within reach of children must be provided with receptacle covers when not<br />

in use.<br />

• Fireplaces must be guarded.<br />

• Medicines, poisons and other dangerous substances must be stored in a locked cabinet.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> premises must be clean and well maintained at al times.<br />

• <strong>The</strong>re must be a monthly fire evacuation carried with children present.<br />

• Outdoor play areas must be safe, secure, and any open water or pits must be fenced or<br />

covered.<br />

• Potable drinking water must be available. Common drinking cups or utensils are prohibited.<br />

• Cold and hot water not exceeding 110 F (43 C) must be supplied to lavatory fixtures<br />

accessible to children.<br />

• Toilet facilities must be clean, suitable for children and provided with hand washing facilities.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re must be one toilet and washbasin for every 15 children.<br />

• Individual clean cribs, cots or mats (suitable to the child’s age and level of development)<br />

and clean linens must be provided. For evening care, each child must be provided with a<br />

firm, waterproof mattress. At least 3 feet (0.9M) of space must separate cribs, cots and mats.<br />

• <strong>The</strong>re must be a full-time trained facility director for all facilities with more than 60 children.<br />

• Health records must be maintained for each child including details of immunizations,<br />

medications, communicable diseases and evidence of neglect or unusual injuries. Any<br />

instances of neglect or unusual injuries must be reported to the facility manager.<br />

3. TRAINING — All employees working with children must receive training which includes at a minimum:<br />

• An overview of the risk assessment.<br />

• Good practices for working with children.<br />

• Written Procedures.<br />

4. DOCUMENTATION —<br />

Training Records: Each facility must maintain training records for a minimum of 3 years.<br />

Medical Records: Each facility must maintain current, confidential and secure medical records for each<br />

child at the facility.<br />

<strong>Inc</strong>ident Records: Each facility must maintain incident records for a minimum of 5 years.<br />
