CHILD CARE FACILITY MANAGEMENT<br />
STANDARD<br />
<strong>The</strong> contractor provides a safe, hygienic and healthy workplace setting and takes necessary steps to<br />
prevent accidents and injury arising out of, linked with or occurring in the course of work or as result of<br />
the operation of contractor’s facilities. <strong>The</strong> contractor has systems to detect, avoid and respond to<br />
potential risks to the safety and health of all employees.<br />
‣ Develop and implement processes and procedures to reduce or eliminate risk associated with<br />
working with children or child care facilities.<br />
RESPONSIBILITIES<br />
Location Manager must ensure that child care procedures are developed, implemented and followed.<br />
HSE Representative must establish, maintain and administer child care procedures.<br />
Managers and Supervisors must ensure that employees are trained and adhere to the requirements of<br />
the child care procedures.<br />
Employees must adhere to the requirements of the child care procedures.<br />
REQUIREMENTS<br />
1. RISK ASSESSMENT—Each facility must have a documented annual risk assessment for child care facilities<br />
and for working with children (e.g. soccer schools, events, etc.) which includes as a minimum:<br />
a. Identification of all potential child care hazards.<br />
b. Evaluation of risk associated with hazards.<br />
c. Identification of the control measures required to reduce the risk (e.g., first aid/CPR, safe play<br />
areas).<br />
2. POLICIES & PROCEDURES—Each facility must implement child care procedures. As a minimum, they<br />
must include:<br />
a. Working with children:<br />
• <strong>The</strong> event organizer must be familiar with the requirements of local legislation.<br />
• First aid/CPR qualified individuals must be available.<br />
• Written parental/guardian consent to act in place of the parent so as to legally give first aid/<br />
medical treatment or for transporting children in cars/ busses or any other form of<br />
transportation.<br />
• Parent/guardian contact information must be kept on file.<br />
• Screening prior to employment, of any employees who will be working with children at over<br />
night events or directly coaching children (e.g. soccer schools).<br />
• Children may only be released to an authorized parent/guardian or designated individual.<br />
