DORMITORY MANAGEMENT<br />
• Adequate lighting and electric services must be provided in all living areas.<br />
• Provisions for the sanitary collection and disposal of garbage must be provided.<br />
b. Sleeping quarters:<br />
• Individual beds, cots or bunks (no triple bunks allowed) must be provided to each occupant.<br />
• Any bedding materials provided by the facility must be clean and sanitary.<br />
• Separate sleeping areas must be provided for each gender.<br />
c. Shower and toilet areas:<br />
• Toilet facilities must be provided at a ratio of one toilet for each 15 occupants.<br />
• Toilet facilities must be within 50 meters of each living unit.<br />
• Toilet facilities must be separated by gender and marked as such.<br />
• Toilet facilities must be cleaned and sanitized daily.<br />
• All shower and washing areas must provide pressurized, hot and cold portable water.<br />
• Shower and washing areas must be within 50 meters of each living unit.<br />
• Showerheads must be placed a minimum of 1 meter apart and at a ratio of one<br />
showerhead for each 15 occupants.<br />
• Separate shower and washing facilities must be provided for each gender type and marked<br />
as such.<br />
• Shower and washroom floors must be constructed of nonabsorbent materials and sanitized<br />
daily.<br />
d. Eating and food preparation area must be provided.<br />
e. Fire safety and first aid:<br />
• Emergency action plans must be posted in conspicuous locations throughout the facility<br />
that include detailed evacuation procedures in the event of an emergency.<br />
• Fire extinguishing equipment must be provided in a readily accessible location not more<br />
than 30 meters from each living area.<br />
• A minimum of two exits must be clearly marked on each floor.<br />
• Annual fire drills must be documented.<br />
• First aid kits must be provided and readily accessible for use at all times at a ratio of 1 kit per<br />
50 occupants.<br />
• Hazardous chemicals must be stored only in designated areas.<br />
