HAZARDOUS MATERIALS<br />

• In good condition.<br />

• Compatible with the contents.<br />

• Labeled in the language of the employees, readable and in good condition.<br />

• Closed at all times when not in use.<br />

• All primary flammable material containers must be bonded and grounded / earthed.<br />

• Empty containers must be labeled and stored per storage area requirements.<br />

c. Storage area requirements:<br />

• Storage areas must be secured and covered.<br />

• Containers must be stored on impervious surfaces.<br />

• Storage areas must have adequate ventilation and accessible emergency eyewash or<br />

shower stations.<br />

• Eating, smoking and drinking are not permitted in these areas.<br />

• <strong>The</strong>re must be secondary containment for materials exceeding 208.2 liters (55 gallons)<br />

that is at least 110% of the volume of the largest container.<br />

• Adequate aisle space must be maintained between containers.<br />

• Containers must not be over stacked.<br />

• <strong>Inc</strong>ompatible materials must be segregated.<br />

• Flammable and combustible materials must be stored away from ignition sources.<br />

d. Compressed gas cylinders must be:<br />

• Stored upright and secured to prevent them from falling.<br />

• Labeled to identify the gas and associated hazards.<br />

• Stored away from ignition sources, corrosive atmospheres and extreme weather<br />

conditions.<br />

• Empty and full cylinders must be labeled appropriately and segregated.<br />

e. Hazardous material transfer:<br />

• Flammable material containers must be bonded and grounded / earthed.<br />

• Drip trays / pans must be placed under dispensing containers.<br />

• Dispensing must occur on impervious surfaces.<br />

• Leaks or spills must be cleaned up immediately.<br />

f. A documented spill response plan and equipment must be available where hazardous<br />

materials are used and stored.<br />
