ASBESTOS<br />

a. Communication to affected employees of ACM presence and associated health hazards.<br />

b. Labeling of ACM to include: dangers, contains asbestos, and precautions.<br />

c. Use of a permit-to-work for all work on ACM.<br />

d. Work only to be completed by trained and competent individuals.<br />

e. Provisions for the proper use of personal protective equipment, engineering controls,<br />

housekeeping requirements, containment and clean up equipment when working with ACM.<br />

f. Proper disposal of ACM in accordance with local legislative requirements.<br />

g. Quarterly inspections to verify the condition of known or suspected ACM.<br />

h. Conduct medical surveillance for individuals working with ACM.<br />

3. TRAINING—<br />

Asbestos awareness: all employees working in the presence of known or suspected ACM must<br />

receive training on an annual basis. Training must include:<br />

• Basic recognition of ACM.<br />

• Health hazards associated with ACM.<br />

• Activities that could result in the release of asbestos fibers.<br />

• Notification requirements in the event of disturbed ACM.<br />

• Site specific ACM policies and procedures.<br />

ACM maintenance employees: all employees in direct contact with ACM, such as maintenance or<br />

custodial staff, will receive the following additional annual training:<br />

• How to avoid damage to ACM.<br />

• Use, fitting, limitations and care of personal protective equipment.<br />

• Procedures for the maintenance of ACM.<br />

• Location signs of damage and deterioration of ACM.<br />

• Response to a fiber release.<br />

4. DOCUMENTATION—<br />

Training Records: Each facility must maintain employee training records for a minimum of 3 years.<br />

Medical Records: If applicable, each facility must maintain confidential and secure medical<br />

records for a minimum length of employment, plus 30 years. Medical records shall not be disclosed<br />

without employee’s written consent, except as required by law.<br />

<strong>Inc</strong>ident Records: Records must be kept of all incidents involving ACM. <strong>The</strong>se records must be kept<br />

for a minimum of 5 years.<br />
