Personal Commitment to Sustainability • I am from the tail end of the baby boomer generation! • Dad worked, Mom managed the house • Family culture was work hard, spend little! • 1970’s: gas rationing and price freezes • 1980’s: the other Great Recession • Growing up: Don’t leave the lights or the water on, ever! I heard that 1 million times in a “Loud Dad Voice”! • I worked full time during college, lived off campus and graduated in four years from U of O….GO DUCKS! • Resources are limited, use them wisely! 12
Personal Commitment to Sustainability • Obtaining resources, takes resources • Obtaining resources, takes away from our environment • Resources are limited, not limitless • Wise use of resources minimizes total cost, improving competitiveness • A sustainability focus causes people to look at ALL WASTE DIFFERENTLY!!! • Whether at work or home, we should be good stewards of the resources we have given Main points: Every resource is limited and should be used responsibly! We should strive to leave this world a better place for future generations! 13
