From the very start of the ACCENT label in
1979, it was clear that it would specialize almost
exclusively in Early Music, employing historic
performance practices. The artists, who record
or have recorded for ACCENT, were from the
outset among the most renowned interpreters
of Early Music: the brothers Barthold, Sigiswald
and Wieland Kuijken, René Jacobs, Jos van Immerseel,
Konrad Junghänel, Erik van Nevel and
his Ensemble Currende, Maria Cristina Kiehr
with Colombina, Paul Dombrecht, Marcel Ponseele
with his Ensemble il Gardellino, but also
younger artists such as Ewald Demeyere, Marc
Hantaï, Frank Theuns and Private Musicke with
Pierre Pitzl, among others.
The ACCENT catalogue would like to take
the inquisitive lover of music on a voyage
through the world of Early Music. In the course
of this, he will frequently meet pieces, which,
sadly, he will hardly ever come across in the
concert hall or on CD. Surprisingly, these do not
come only from little-known composers such
as Joseph Bodin de Boismortier and Johannes
Prioris, but, indeed, also from popular compos-

ers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg
Philipp Telemann.
Yet the rarities are recorded for ACCENT
not only for their unfamiliarity, but much more
because they are important works, criminally
neglected until now, and recorded at the personal
request of the performers. ACCENT has
always been committed to the personal wishes
of its many performers since its foundation.
