Laid on backing board; tear att bottom of image; mount burn and staining to edges. £690 French print of the Gordon Riots in London, an anti- Act, which Catholic protest against the 1778 Papists eliminated some long-standing penaltiess and restrictions against Roman Catholics in England. They are known as the Gordon Riots because of the role played by Lord Gordon, MP and President of the Protestant Association, in stoking anti-Catholic sentiment. Extensive text below identifying Lord Gordon (in Parliament on the right), Lord Boston, Lord Stormont, the Archbishop of Lincoln, the Chapel of the Ambassador of Sardinia in flames, and with fruther text. Trimmed insidee platemark onn three sides; very fine. £1100 The Lady Kennaway, built inn Calcutta in 1817 and seen here shortly before she was chartered as convict transport in 1830, carrying convicts to Australia and Tasmania, as well w as trading with India and Canada. Print made fromm a painting by W.J. Huggins (1781- 1845), who in 18301 became marine painter to William IV. [Ref: 30063] 26. [Anti-British propaganda relating to 4th Anglo-Dutch War] Algemeene Staatkundige Konstplaat Van'tt Jaar 17800 [parallel text in French below] [Amsterdam, 1780] Etching, sheet 485 x 455mm (19 x 18") . Trimmed inside platemark on left, folds. Very scarce. £650 Fifteen satirical images directed againstt the British preceding the outbreak of war between the English and the United Provinces in 1780, a war related to the American Revolutionary War. Most of the t plate is composed of reduced of reduced versions of previously published plates. Some have explicit American content, such as 8 (which mentions Florida) and 15 (Philadelphia). In the wake of the Gordon Riots in London, 'the intention heree seems to be to identify English sailors with the plundering London mob' (George). 28. The racing yacht 'Emma' owned by William Curtis and named for his elder daughter, one of two yachts that Curtis kept at Ramsgate. Print made from a painting by W.J. Huggins (1781- 1845), who in 1830 became marine painter to Williamm IV. [Ref: 30064] 29. The Golfers. A grand match played over St. Andrews links. Some damage. £2750 Print of one of the most famous golfing paintings of all time, set on the 'Ginger Beer r hole' at the 'Old Course' at St Andrews. The painting is in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. This is an early example of the original print, with w its original oak frame (at( the moment unframed). [Ref: 30067] 30.
