THE HIRED MAN
Please ring for an appointment
Geoffrey Long
"The Hired Man" is being performed by Abingdon Operatic Society
as part of the 2003 Abingdon Arts Festival. The dramatic and moving
story is from a stirring novel by Melvyn Bragg, following his
Cumbrian family’s journey in the early part of the 20th century from
land labourers to soldiers, to colliers and finally back to the land. With
an enthralling story and superb atmospheric music – a succession of
chorales, duets and foot-stomping rhythms – from Howard Goodall
(well known for the TV theme music for Blackadder, Mr Bean
and Vicar of Dibley) this production promises audiences an evening
of memorable musical theatre. For details see advert on p 7
