Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre & Wildlife Reserve
On the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage site of
New Lanark, breathtaking ancient woodlands line the
River Clyde as it flows through the gorge and over a
series of spectacular waterfalls. Meet the residents
on regular bat or badger walks and get a bird’s eye
view of the peregrine falcons. Woodland walks and
visitor centre displays ensure a fantastic day out.

Montrose Basin Visitor Centre & Wildlife Reserve
The basin provides a plentiful supply of food and
is a favourite destination for many birds, from eider
ducks to pink-footed geese. In winter, migratory
birds arrive en masse. Interactive displays bring the
history and creatures that live there to life.

By car
Follow the signposts from the A9.
The reserve is located 1.8 miles northeast
of Dunkeld, just off the A923 Blairgowrie
road. Free car parking is available
at the visitor centre.
By public transport
The nearest railway station is “Dunkeld
and Birnam”. There are also bus stops
in Dunkeld and Birnam.
On foot
Why not follow the Fungarth Path from Dunkeld
which takes you to the loch? From there it is
only a short walk to the visitor centre.
For disabled visitors
The visitor centre is wheelchair friendly including
toilet facilities. An induction loop is fitted.

(2 adults and 2 children under 16) £7.50.
Children £0.50. SWT members FREE.

Explore the visitor centre, set on the edge of the loch, which
offers many unique and wonderful experiences, from watching
nesting osprey and other wetland birds to spotting red squirrels
and discovering what lives under the water’s surface in the loch.
Our visitor centre has interactive exhibitions telling the story of the
Loch of the Lowes, its history, wildlife and its osprey.
See the magnificent wild osprey as they return each March from
Africa to their breeding home on the banks of the loch. Our main
observation hide offers a bird’s eye view of the osprey at their eyrie
(nest) and if you are lucky, you may even see one fishing on the loch.
Discover the story of the ‘Lady of the Loch’, possibly the
world’s most famous osprey. Learn about the dangers and traumas
she has overcome, and her amazing 20 years of breeding success.
Find out the history of the osprey in Scotland. Now with 200 osprey
pairs, they are one of Scotland’s conservation success stories.
Watch the eggs hatch from May onwards and the chicks
being fed before your very eyes on our live HD camera. You can
watch this amazing sight from the visitor centre, as well as from
the comfort of your own home, via our live web-feed! A team of
dedicated volunteers keep the osprey under 24-hour surveillance to
protect the eggs and young.

Friendly staff and volunteers are always on hand to answer
your questions and to make sure you get the most out of your visit.
Our visitor centre offers free all-day parking and is fully accessible
with disabled parking available 20 yards from the entrance.
Follow the Fungarth Path from nearby Dunkeld to Loch of the
Lowes. This short country walk, beautiful all year round, allows you to
take in the sights and smells of the stunning Perthshire countryside.
Discover what lives under the surface of the loch and
spot otters frolicking in the water in search of their supper.
In the early mornings keep your eye out for deer as they
forage amongst the trees.
Play one of the interactive wildlife quizzes in the visitor centre
or send an e-card to your friends and family telling them all about
your amazing experiences during your visit! Or visit our wildlife
shop where you can buy souvenirs with the knowledge that all the
profits go directly to protecting Scotland’s wildlife.

osprey fish on the loch
Enjoy seeing beautiful water birds that nest at the loch, from
wigeon and moorhen to mallards and great crested grebes.
Observe these birds up close with the help of powerful telescopes
and binoculars provided in our three dedicated observation hides.
Spot red squirrels from the viewing window in our refurbished
visitor centre. The red squirrel is now considered endangered,
but here on the reserve families of red squirrels visit our feeders,
much to the delight of our visitors! You’ll also be able to see
woodland birds such as treecreepers, siskins and greater spotted
woodpeckers that all make great use of our feeders.
