New wireless mouse pointer
Now you can control DYNO-MAX 2000 remotely during
motorcycle or automotive chassis dyno testing. Eliminates the need
for having access to the computer’s keyboard from the vehicle’s
seat. All you need is to be able to see the DYNO-MAX 2000 “Pro”
Chassis Console’s large button screen.
Unlike infrared optical mice (or TV remote controls) a direct line of
site is not required to control the PC. Bluetooth (radio based) USB
design - can be used without even lifting the mouse off of the seat,
dashboard, or your lap.
Works with Windows XP, 2000, Me, and 98 on PC’s that have a
USB or standard PS/2 (5-pin DIN) mouse port. No external power
hook-up is required. Thumb Wheel track ball and 3-button design
provides for full control of most applications. Receiver module has
its own indicator light too.
DYNO-MAX Version 9.32…
The 2004 update of DYNO-MAX 2000 is available for
downloading. DYNO-MAX 2000 Version 9.32 SP #0 is our most
powerful release ever! It adds several new features beyond 9.3’s,
including: support for the DYNOmite Exhaust Measuring System
(see separate article on following page), DYNOmite-Pro’s new
Spark Advance option, enhanced Smart Load algorithms, and a
couple of other minor tweaks. This release is available in the
DYNO-MAX Support area for free downloading (to 9.0 thru 9.31
licensees under a current support plan).
Additionally, both “joules/sec” and “cal/sec” units are now
available in the Formula Listing as “Power” Units Type choices. A
new digital link to our DYNOmite EMS 5-gas analyzer allows
capturing and displaying the real-time levels of Hydro Carbons,
Carbon Monoxide, Carbon Dioxide, Oxygen, and Nitric Oxides in
the engine’s exhaust. Calculated EMS Lambda and Air/Fuel Ratio
formulas are part of this package. Smart Load was enhanced again -
to self-adapt to an even wider range of engines and dynamometer
applications.
A sample “Extra Fast EGT #1” Formula (included), illustrates how
to use the Formula Editor’s derivative function - to reduce the
effective time constant lag of temperature sensors (see the Tip of
the Month section, on the next page, for more information).
5-Gas Exhaust Analyzer
Our newest analyzer monitors and displays engine emissions on its
large integral LCD panels - while simultaneously providing digital
communication output! A simple user interface supports both
manual and automatic zeroing, low-flow warnings, calibration,
out-of-range detection, etc.
Monitored gasses include O2 (0-25%), CO (0-10%), CO2 (0-20%),
HC’s (0-2000 ppm), and NOX (0-5000 ppm). Lambda and AFR are
also calculated and displayed when using the optional
DYNO-MAX 2000 software.
Typical Accuracy is +/- 1% (or better) of the channels full scale
range. With a fast response time of < 9 seconds (to 90% of actual
reading using the included 25' hose), steady state engine holding
time requirements are reduced. This makes it safe and practical to
capture data on either a chassis dynamometer (with load control) or
via on-road testing.
The flexible stainless tailpipe “sniffer” probe and hose assembly
includes a quick disconnect coupling and simple retaining link for
speedy installation. Warm up time of less than 5-minutes makes
preparing for a new test session a snap. Plus, integral vacuum
pumps and water separator insure that the system is both compact
and easy to maintain.
Portable DC operation is supported via the included 12-volt
accessory (cigarette lighter) plug. This allows the DYNOmite EMS
to go on the road - for real world emissions monitoring . The
system also runs on 115-volts with the included AC power supply.
DYNO-MAX 2000 “Pro” Version 9.32 (available for free
downloading to 9.0 thru 9.32 “Pro” licensees under a current
support plan) includes new Emissions Consoles and Emissions
Formulas. These are to directly support the all digital link (no more
wasted 0-5 volt channels or analog conversion errors) between the
DYNOmite Exhaust Measuring System (in above photo) and your
PC or laptop.
Tip of the Month!
Quicker EGT response time...
can be simulated using advanced features in
DYNO-MAX 2000 “Pro’s” Formula Editor. An
example user editable formula named “Extra
Fast EGT #1” is included in Version 9.32 =
Exhaust Temp #1 +
(d/dt ( 0.500 {Exhaust Temp #1} *
0.800 )
Understand that all thermocouple elements
take time to register temperature changes.
This response lag is referred to as the
thermocouple’s “Time Constant” (seconds to
register 63.2% of a temperature change).
Typical heavy-duty (sheathed) probes can take
several seconds to reach the exhaust’s actual
temperature. Even exposed junction probes -
using very fine (and fragile) wire - still have
Time Constants measured in tenths of a
second. In other words, thermocouples
suitable for daily dynamometer testing fall far
short of providing instantaneous response.
Fortunately, there is a way to compensate for
this latency. When the medium- in this case
exhaust gases - and their average velocity are
relatively consistent, it becomes practical to
extrapolate the true exhaust temperature from
a thermocouple’s rate of change.
DYNO-MAX’s “Derivative” formula feature can
easily resolve this Delta Temperature and then
multiply it by a scaling constant* - returning
the current temperature lag deviation. We add
this correction value to the normal EGT
reading - for a close estimate of the true
instantaneous temperature.
*The “scaling constant” can be experimentally
determined by recording EGT readings - while
rapidly opening, holding, and then rapidly
closing the throttle (under load). Graph and
compare both the standard EGT #1 and the
Extra Fast EGT #1formulas. Then edit the
Extra Fast EGT #1 formula’s scaling constant
(default is 0.800) until the Extra Fast EGT #1
response is close to instantaneous (without
overshooting the steady state EGT #1 temps).
DYNOmite HD Absorbers
Direct mounting heavy-duty absorbers can test engines supported
only on their shipping pallets. Mounting adapters are available for a
wide range of popular Cummins, Caterpillar, etc. engines. A wide
range of other applications can also be field adapted.
The above DYNOmite 19" stator toroidal water brake absorber
handles 1,000 Hp (3,000+ at higher RPM with Siamese rotor) and
features sealed bearings on stainless steel shafts. Its unique 4340
steel torque tube mounting adapter transmits no torque through
your stand, so even wooden skids survive! Torque loads to 3,500
foot-pounds can be provided by either our 19" or 24" unit - in their
respective RPM ranges. Splined vibration dampening couplers mate
the engine’s crankshaft to the absorber via heat treated shafts.
Torque measurement is via temperature compensated full-bridge
strain gauges. Their precise shaft torque readings allow the data
acquisition system to calculate repeatable real time horsepower.
Question of the month...?
“How can we electronically send our DYNO-MAX results to
customers, is faxing Reports the only way?”
1) If your DYNO-MAX computer has e-mail capability, you can
just click on “File - Send - E-mail current Run to Recipient...” to
automatically bundle up and attach all the saved Run’s files to an
outgoing message. Your customers will need DYNO-MAX to
examine the data (or they can download our free Demo Version),
but this gives them access to all its powerful data analysis tools.
2) If data is required in a universal ASCII or Excel format, “Pro”
users can click “File - Export Run's Data to .CSV (or .XLS) File.”
3) If you only want to transfer fixed reports & graph’s (not your
actual source data) PDF files are a good way to go. Printing to a
PDF Writer (a driver like Adobe’s Acrobat Distiller) lets you create
and e-mail high-resolution (and scalable) output that customers may
open with Adobe’s free Acrobat Reader. If Distiller seems too
expensive, download WinPDF from our web site’s Support area.
Or, as an alternative to the .pdf format, click “File - Export Graph
as Windows Metafile...” to create a .wmf file from any open graph.
