Ελένη Τσαουσάκη, που δέχεται τις παραγγελίες σας στις
τσαγιερί της πόλης, μέσα από ένα μενού που συνδυάζει ένα
σύγχρονο έργο για άρπα πάνω στην τελετουργία του τσαγιού
με κινηματογραφικές σκηνές τσαγιού (βρετανικές και ιαπωνικές)
και αντίστοιχες γεύσεις.
Όπως φαίνεται και στον τίτλο, η Τελετουργία του Τσαγιού είναι
εμπνευσμένη από το τελετουργικό της προετοιμασίας και κατάποσης
τσαγιού. Το έργο για σόλο άρπα της Catherine Kontz αποτελείται
από 40 μικρά τετράγωνα που περιλαμβάνουν μουσικές
οδηγίες και πληροφορίες για τον αρπίστα. Η μορφή της παρτιτούρας
είναι κατά το πρότυπο των ιαπωνικών κόμικς Manga και επιτρέπει
πολλαπλές αναγνώσεις του υλικού.
Η performance του έργου θα πραγματοποιηθεί στη Ζώγια, μαγαζί
που σχετίζεται κατεξοχήν με το τσάι, και θα συνοδεύεται από
έναν «κατάλογο - μενού» διαφόρων κινηματογραφικών σκηνών
που σχετίζονται με το τσάι. Ενδεικτικά: Tea fight (Wang Yemin,
2008), Tea with Musolini (Franco Zefirelli, 1999), The Bitter Tea
of General Yen (Frank Capra, 1932) κ.ά. Κάθε κινηματογραφική
σκηνή αντιστοιχεί σε κάποιο συγκεκριμένο τύπου τσαγιού και κατ’
επέκταση σε κάποια από τα κουτάκια του έργου, τα οποία θα παίζονται
υπό την μορφή παραγγελίας ως μουσικά θραύσματα του
έργου, όταν οι πελάτες του μαγαζιού ζητήσουν το συγκεκριμένο
τσάι. Στο τέλος, το έργο θα ακουστεί ολόκληρο αποδίδοντας ολοκληρωμένα
την μουσική Τελετουργία του Τσαγιού, συνδυάζοντας
όλες τις κινηματογραφικές σκηνές του καταλόγου.
TEA CEREMONY

A mystic performance chock-full of humour delivered by
harpist Eleni Tsaousaki, who takes your order in the tearooms
of the city. The menu combines a contemporary work for the
harp with tea-related scenes from the cinema (British and
Japanese), and their associated flavours.
As is apparent from the title, the Tea Ceremony is inspired by
the ritual surrounding the preparation and consumption of tea.
Catherine Kontz’s composition for solo harp comprises 40 small
squares that include musical instructions and information for
the harpist. The score is presented in the form traditionally associated
with Japanese Manga comics and this allows for multiple
readings of the material.
The performance of the work will take place at Zoyia, an establishment
that is synonymous to the word ‘tea’, and will be accompanied
by a ‘catalogue - menu’ of different cinema scenes
related to tea. A small sample of the films providing scenes
includes Tea Fight (Wang Yeming, 2008), Tea with Mussolini
(Franco Zeffirelli, 1999) and The Bitter Tea of General Yen (Frank
Capra, 1933). Each cinema scene corresponds to a certain type
of tea and, by extension, to some of the squares of the music
piece; these are then considered to be an order that has
been placed. Following this, musical fragments of the work are
performed whenever tearoom customers ask for that particular
type of tea. In the end, the work is heard in its entirety, thus
wholly rendering the music of the Tea Ceremony, combining all
of the cinema scenes on the menu.
