city, listening to the thoughts of people through the ‘walls’.
An airborne choreography in the city at dawn.
The film Wings of Desire, a poetic elegy directed by Wim Wenders,
provides the source of inspiration for this event. As in the
film, reference is made not only to the Berlin Wall, but to all
walls that divide and separate people, to all walls in which human
thoughts nestle, to all walls that hinder love.
Inside a building located in one of the city’s central neighbourhoods,
two creatures / angels dangle like two incubating cocoons,
through the technical support of two specially trained
climbers whose bodies function as a counterweight to the bodies
of the dancers.
The sonic landscape is the city, which drowns within the sounds
of human thoughts. These sounds awaken the two beings, which
begin to listen attentively to the building, become activated and
move into motion with a ‘vocabulary’ that is exclusively theirs, in
a vertical relationship with the building, in a vertical dance. Two
bodies pulsating from the decibels of human thoughts, which
lie in contrast to the urban noise. From up high they observe the
fragile earthly reality and are attracted by it. Eros, whether magical
lie or magical truth, lures the angels to our terrestrial world.
As the event concludes, the angels / dancers leave behind their
airy clothing and fall from the building using a rappelling technique.
They touch the ground and are lost in the crowd, like lovestruck
fallen angels.
