We Value Excellence The institution makes a commitment to internal and external constituents to make each program and service one of excellence by establishing high standards that sustain and promote higher education in an innovative learningcentered environment. RSC is Perfect Partner During 2005, Rose State College received recognition from the Oklahoma City Public Schools as a “Perfect Partner” for its efforts that focused on its adopted schools, Telstar and Willow Brook. Newspaper Awarded Grant Rose State College received a $28,000 grant from the Excellence in Journalism Foundation to upgrade to Macintosh G5 computers at the 15th Street News. Accreditation Granted Rose State College’s Oklahoma Small Business Development Center has received full accreditation without condition from the Association of Small Business Development. Accreditation qualifies Rose State College to apply for SBA funds administered by the office of Small Business Development Centers. The Rose State College OSBDC has been in existence for more than 19 years and has served more than 20,000 Oklahomans in one-to-one business counseling, training or conferences. Awards Given on May 5 At the May 5 Commencement, RSC recognized some of the institution’s finest faculty members for their outstanding contributions to the teaching profession with “Excellence in Teaching Awards.” Honorees were: Respiratory Care Professor Toney Dake; Networking and Cyber Security Professor Eileen Dewey; Math Professor Nancy Graham and Psychology Professor Jerrie Scott. Adjunct honorees were: Math and Physics Professor Frank Klein, and History Professor Carolyn Cuskey. 10 Rose State College President’s Report to the Community | 2005-2006

White Co-authors Song Craig White, Professor of Music Recording, is co-author of the song “Takin’ Candy From My Baby,” which has been selected for the soundtrack of the upcoming film “Left In Darkness.” Staff Makes Presentations Student Affairs staff made presentations at several conferences about the College’s retention program, “Finish What You Start.” Those presentations occurred at the League of Innovation Conference, the Annual Meeting of the Higher Learning Commission, the National Institute for Staff and Organization Development Conference, and the Higher Education Conference on Enrollment Management at the Oklahoma State Regents. LRC Provides Quality Services The Learning Resources Center continues to provide quality services and to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students to assist the College with its mission, helping shape a positive future for our students, faculty, the general community and the LRC. • The librarians provided 215 class information literacy sessions to roughly 4,200 RSC students. • The Math Lab served 5,822 students during 2005. • Academic Testing Services administered 10,729 tests in the 2006 fiscal year. Retention Efforts Saluted The College received national recognition for its retention efforts through receipt of the Exemplary Initiatives Award from the National Association of Instructional Administrators. Character Training Initiated The Character First initiative was kickedoff on campus when Kent Fahrenbruck, of Character First, made a presentation to the President’s Leadership Class in January and the Administrative Council in April. A workshop was planned for early summer for additional training. Programs Recognized The United States Water Fitness Association gave RSC the following awards: Top Aquatic Program in Oklahoma; Top 10 Aquatic Program Overall and Top 10 Aquatic Directors. The RSC Wellness Program was presented the Award of Excellence at the Oklahoma Certified Healthy Business Awards in December 2005. Pegasus Celebrates 26 Years Pegasus, Rose State College’s literary publication, celebrated 26 years of distribution with a reception in late spring. Serving as faculty editors were Susan Dawson-O’Brien and Karen Holt, and student editor was Erin Waltman. The Student Life Banquet held at the end of the spring semester honored club officers, Student Senators, athletes, Ambassadors and an outstanding member of the President’s Leadership Class and Legacy Scholars.
