Education-To-Go Added The Division of Continuing Education and Community Services has partnered with Education-To-Go, one of today’s leading non-credit online programs to offer a variety of business, personal enrichment and professional development courses to fit the community’s needs. PTEC Building Under Way Rose State College hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on June 15 celebrating the beginning of construction of the $7.65 million Professional Training and Education Center. The 32,000 square foot Professional Training and Education Center will feature a tiered auditorium which will seat 98 students. It will have nine additional classrooms as well as a multi-purpose classroom that can be broken into two or four classrooms. There are also other student gathering areas, including lounge areas and group study rooms. The facility will incorporate advanced classroom technology and wireless computer access. Construction is slated to be completed in spring 2007. Grant for News Program Rose State College received a grant from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation. The grant will be directed by Broadcast professor Skip Leckness and Journalism professor Susan Dawson- O’Brien and will allow the programs to purchase new equipment and sets in the broadcast lab for a news program to be produced jointly by the Broadcast and Journalism programs. Project Success Continued For 2005, Student Affairs continued to implement the retention effort—Project Success. The event was held twice and enjoyed attendance of 350 students for each event. Faculty and staff from across the campus also attended the event that brought information about degree programs, student services, financial aid opportunities, and enrollment procedures into a single forum. Robert J. Conner, Director of Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at Tinker Air Force Base, was a speaker at the PTEC groundbreaking ceremony and the 2006 RSC commencement. Pass Rates Excellent Graduates from the Health Sciences programs sitting for national certifying or licensure exams continue to perform at commendable levels. Latest available pass rates on credentialing exams: Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene, 100%; Clinical Laboratory, 100%; Health Information Technology, 100%; Radiologic Technology, 100%; Respiratory Care, 100%; and Nursing overall, 89%. Employment rates are right at 100% for all graduates, and the reputation is unprecedented in the community. Actual Dental Hygiene performance ranked the RSC program 39th of 254, in the top 15% nationally. 526 Attend Orientation Student Affairs coordinated a Family Orientation to familiarize students to campus, but also to create a support system for the student by encouraging family participation. Five hundred twenty six participants enjoyed educational sessions and an opportunity to get acquainted with the campus, faculty and staff. Family orientation kicks-off Raider Dayz as a welcoming event to the fall semester. New Center is Funded With the passing of the Higher Education Capital Bond issue, Rose State College received $11.75 million for a new Health Sciences Center. The Benham Group was selected as the architect, and the design process began in June 2006. Student Videos Created Student Affairs developed a marketing/ recruitment video (DVD) to provide prospective students with an opportunity to learn more about Rose State. In addition, a leadership video was developed to inform prospective and current students about leadership positions on campus. Program Assists Students The RSC Talent Search Program continued their efforts in working with 750 students in Crooked Oak Schools, Crutcho Schools and the Oklahoma City Public Schools. The program met or exceeded all performance indicators, such as college bound rates, graduation rates and financial aid application completion rates. In addition, 414 students were sponsored through the program to attend cultural events. Professor Serves on Board Dara Hays, Professor in the Webmaster and E-Commerce Program, serves on the national advisory Board for the World Organization of Webmasters. Hays is heading a task force to model national standards of Webmaster curriculum based on curriculum used at Rose State College.
