Point Slope
Definition 5 An equation of the form
y − y 1 = m(x − x 1 )
is a linear equation in point-slope form.
In general, the graph of an equation y − y 1 = m(x − x 1 ) is a line
with slope m passing through the point (x 1 , y 1 ).
Example: What is the point-slope equation for the line with a
slope of 3 passing through the point (−4, 6)?
