Centre for Defence<br />

Acquisition and<br />

Technology (CDAT)<br />

This Centre builds on<br />

the legacy of the old Royal<br />

Military College of Science<br />

dating back to 1864, and<br />

delivers a range of technical<br />

training and education through<br />

the academic partner (Cranfield<br />

University) as well as a variety of<br />

Acquisition courses delivered to a<br />

broad Defence audience by blended<br />

learning, on-site at <strong>Shrivenham</strong> and<br />

at out stations in Abbeywood and<br />

London. Training courses can take the<br />

form of short interventions of a few days;<br />

postgraduate level education outputs<br />

include PG Certificate, PG Diploma and<br />

3 year long Masters Courses. HQ CDAT<br />

is located at <strong>Shrivenham</strong> in the Defence<br />

Capability Centre (DCC) which is also used as<br />

a major MOD meeting / conference venue.<br />

The Centre also incorporates the Military<br />

Knowledge Office (MKO) responsible for<br />

delivering professional development programmes<br />

for Army personnel.<br />

Defence Technical Officer and Engineer Entry<br />

Scheme (DTOEES). The scheme incorporates<br />

both Sixth Form entry and undergraduate level<br />

education for candidates from all 4 services destined<br />

for technically focussed careers. The Defence Sixth<br />

Form College (DSFC), at Loughborough, provides a<br />

top quality, technically focussed Sixth Form education<br />

designed to prepare students for attendance on<br />

technical undergraduate courses and subsequent<br />

careers in the technical streams of all 4 services. The<br />

defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme (DTUS)<br />

supports bursary undergraduates and in-service<br />

degree officers for the four MOD Services at Aston,<br />

Birmingham, Cambridge, Imperial College and UCL<br />

London, Loughborough, Newcastle, Northumbria,<br />

Oxford, Southampton, Strathclyde Universities to study<br />

engineering or science degrees. Portsmouth University<br />

will join the scheme in <strong>2015</strong>.<br />

Nuclear Department<br />

The Nuclear Department is based at HMS SULTAN<br />

in Gosport and delivers through life training and higher<br />

level education for military and MOD civilian and support<br />

industries personnel for the Royal Navy’s nuclear<br />

propulsion programme.<br />

International Engagement Group (IEG)<br />

The International Engagement Group (IEG) was<br />

established in 2012 and use the expertise in training,<br />

education, advisory support and outreach and the<br />

wider resources of the Academy, the Armed Forces and<br />

government to support HMG’s international priorities as<br />

set out in the International Defence Engagement Strategy,<br />

the Building Stability Overseas Strategy, the New Deal<br />

for Engagement in Fragile States and the FCO prosperityled<br />

agenda. It brings together the Defence Academy’s<br />

existing Defence Relations and International Sections and<br />

the newly integrated cross-government National School<br />

of Government International (NSGI) team into a single<br />

entity designed to improve synergy and provide a better<br />

focus for all Academy international business and related<br />

knowledge management. The IEG will work closely<br />

with MOD, Army, Navy and Air Force colleagues, wider<br />

Whitehall, including the Stabilisation Unit, and other<br />

relevant actors such as Universities and NGOs.<br />
