The State School System<br />
The Education Garrison<br />
State schools provide free tuition, but if the child is required to board a boarding fee is charged.There are two stages of<br />
children’s education, primary and secondary. Primary schools accept children who are 5 years old at the beginning of<br />
the school term, and transfer them to secondary schools at the school year (September) following their 11th birthday.<br />
These age limits are strictly enforced. Head teachers can also refuse admission to children whose ability does not<br />
enable them to benefit from the education provided.<br />
Parents of children who do not speak English should seek advice from the Oxford Education Officer before arriving at<br />
<strong>Shrivenham</strong>.<br />
