Compassionate Leave
(For Service Personnel, their Dependants based
abroad, Territorial Army and Mobilised Reservists)
If circumstances should arise whilst your relative is
overseas (including N Ireland) either on a posting,
at sea, or on deployment, that make it necessary for
you to apply for his/her return on compassionate
grounds (such as a death in the family, serious illness
or serious family crisis) you should telephone:

This number is continually manned 24 hours a day
including weekends and Bank Holidays.
When you call you will be asked for the following
information: Service Number, Rank, Name, Parent
Unit and current location of the Service person,
together with full details of the relative concerned,
their location and name of Doctor, Hospital and/or
any other organisation involved in the case. Please
be aware that any information will be verified with
the appropriate organisations before Compassionate
Leave Travel may be recommended and authorised.
Although you may wish to contact your relative or
his/her parent unit for advice or support, contact
the JCCC directly, so that your case can be dealt
with without delay. Your relative’s unit cannot
authorise Compassionate Travel, and therefore
any information you pass to them will have to be
forwarded to the JCCC which will waste valuable
time in dealing with your request.

SSAFA – Forces Help
Forcesline
Forcesline is run by SSAFA Forces Help. Previously
known as the Confidential Support Line, it has been
helping people connected to the Armed Forces since
1997.
Forcesline is open Monday to Friday, including Bank
Holidays from 1030-1930 hrs.
Forcesline is a free and confidential helpline for you
to talk to one of our experienced civilian staff about
any personal concerns, worries or problems.
We will not judge you; we will simply listen and give
you factual information or signpost you to additional
support if that is what you want.
We know how important confidentiality is to our
callers, which is why:
• Forcesline is independent of the military chain of
command
• All our staff sign a lifelong confidentiality
agreement
• We cannot tell where anyone is calling or emailing
from
You, your family or friends can call Forcesline if you
are currently serving in any of the Armed Forces or if
you have previously served.
We want to provide you with the best possible
service. We welcome feedback via our website
and are proud to be accredited by The Helplines
Association.
