PRIVATE LANDS
Immediate suppression action will be taken by the cooperating agencies
within their capabilities. Immediate notification of all fires either on or
threatening private lands or private property will be given to the Big Horn
County Sheriff’s Office (1-800-500-2324.
BIGHORN CANYON NRA LAND
Immediate suppression action will be taken by the cooperating parties within
their capabilities.
Bighorn County Fire Protection District #1 (Lovell Fire Department) is
authorized by the National Park Service to respond to any wildland or
structural fire within the boundaries of Bighorn Canyon National Recreation
Area south of the Crow Indian Reservation. Any such response will be
governed by the reciprocal fire protection rules set forth in this agreement.
For all fires discovered either on or threatening National Park Service Land,
immediate notification of the fire will be given to the Cody Interagency
Dispatch Center at (1-800-295-9954).
2. Reimbursable Fire Protection Services
Zone Description:
None identified.
3. Offset or Exchange
An initial attack agreement exists between the Wind River/Big Horn Basin Fire
Management of the Bureau of Land Management and the Medicine Wheel Fire
Management of the Bighorn National Forest. The Medicine Wheel Ranger District of
the Forest Service will have initial attack suppression responsibilities on all lands
administered by the BLM located north of Highway 14A and East of the Bighorn
National Recreation Area.
4. Protection Area Maps
Each agency will provide a Protection Area Map as an attachment to this Annual
Operating Plan.
5. Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP)
On fires that threaten, or involve the Wildland Urban Interface, the respective
County’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan shall be referred to for suppression
priorities and other information that could prove beneficial to the suppression efforts.
