BACK TO <strong>WORK</strong><br />
GEORGIA LAWMAKERS HAD A PRETTY FULL PLATE<br />
during the 2011 legislative session, and this year promises more<br />
of the same. Last year, all of the state’s constitutional officers, with the<br />
exception of Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, were newly elected. The Republican<br />
sweep was complete.<br />
This year everybody has more or less settled into the new roles. Good<br />
thing, because the problems and challenges of a tight economy and a<br />
somewhat disgruntled citizenry are still there.<br />
Tax reform will be an issue, as will reforms to the state’s criminal justice<br />
system. There’s a statewide referendum on transportation funding<br />
looming after the session, which has everyone, fan or opponent, a bit<br />
nervous. Attorney General Sam Olens would like to revamp <strong>Georgia</strong>’s<br />
Sunshine Laws, and some legislators are trying to drum up support to<br />
require drug testing for welfare recipients.<br />
<strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>Trend</strong>’s annual Legislative Guide provides contact information<br />
for the state’s lawmakers and other elected officials. Associate Editor<br />
Christy Simo compiled the House, Senate and Congressional delegation<br />
information.<br />
