DEPUTY HEADMASTER (YEARS 4-6) WYVERN HOUSE (YEARS K-6) COMMENCING TERM 1 2014 Newington College is a boys’ school of the Uniting Church, founded in 1863 and a member of the A.A.G.P.S of NSW. There are approximately 1900 boys across three campuses, with around 1250 boys at the Secondary School at Stanmore, including 50 boarders. There are 480 boys at Wyvern House Preparatory School at Stanmore and 151 boys at Lindfield Preparatory School. Stanmore is in the inner-western suburbs of Sydney, Australia, about 3km from the University of Sydney and 6km from the central business district of Sydney. It is served by a railway station approximately 300m from the main gates of the College. Newington College is dedicated to excellence in education for boys, and the realisation of each boy’s potential, providing a balanced curriculum encompassing the spiritual, academic, cultural, physical and pastoral areas of learning. At Newington College we pride ourselves on our dynamic approaches to teaching boys. Each boy is valued for his unique capacity to contribute to the life of the College. At Secondary level, the College offers both the NSW Higher School Certificate and the IB Diploma Programme. A. INTRODUCTION The College is seeking to appoint a permanent, full-time Deputy Headmaster Wyvern House (Years 4-6) to commence Term 1, 2014. There are two Deputy Headmasters at Wyvern House. One is responsible for Kindergarten to Year 3 and the other for Years 4 to 6. They work in collaboration to deliver outstanding leadership and day to day management. This significant leadership position is for the upper primary (Years 4-6) post. There are currently 11 classes (4 at Year 6, 4 at Year 5, 3 at Year 4). The position reports to the Head of Wyvern. The position is assisted by Year Group Team leaders, Counsellor and Staff. The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner and will be required to demonstrate exceptional professional practice. There is a 0.4 to 0.5 FTE teaching load. B. DUTY STATEMENT 1. Academic (Years 4-6) Leadership of the teaching and learning programs, policies and oversight of implementation Responsible for all NSW Board of Studies and National Curriculum compliance requirements Leadership of the implementation of initiatives to enhance learning and teaching practices (Wyvern is using the Building Learning Power framework) Leadership of learning and teaching programs that meet individual boy needs e.g. differentiation, appropriate uses of ICT, specialist subject integration, learning support, gifted programs Analysis of academic data and tracking of individual performances Implementation and regular review of curriculum, assessment and reporting policies and practices.

2. Staffing (Years 4-6)<br />

Leadership of the Upper Primary teachers and support staff<br />

Mentor and lead the induc<strong>ti</strong>on program for new staff<br />

Leading the teacher review and development policies and prac<strong>ti</strong>ces<br />

Model high quality teaching and learning prac<strong>ti</strong>ce (0.4 load)<br />

Oversight of the co-curricular policies and prac<strong>ti</strong>ces in conjunc<strong>ti</strong>on with relevant staff<br />

3. Pastoral (Years 4-6)<br />

Leadership of the pastoral programs (boy care, boy welfare, parent community)<br />

Plan and implement appropriate interven<strong>ti</strong>on strategies as required with relevant staff<br />

Maintain accurate records and excellent administra<strong>ti</strong>ve requirements<br />

Liaise regularly and effec<strong>ti</strong>vely with parents<br />

Conduct regular feedback surveys – boys, parents, staff<br />

Meet all risk and compliance requirements<br />

4. Spiritual<br />

Support the Chaplains with the spiritual programs<br />

Lead by example as per the <strong>College</strong> ethos.<br />

5. Organisa<strong>ti</strong>onal (K-Year 6)<br />

Assist with <strong>ti</strong>metables, duty rosters, calendars<br />

Communicate effec<strong>ti</strong>vely the daily, weekly and, term calendars<br />

Lead assemblies, gatherings, relevant events<br />

Implementa<strong>ti</strong>on of the <strong>College</strong> Strategic Plan as relevant to <strong>Wyvern</strong><br />

Depu<strong>ti</strong>se for Head of <strong>Wyvern</strong> as required<br />

Assist with public rela<strong>ti</strong>ons, tours, events, open days, admissions, interviews<br />

Organise and communicate daily casual relief coverage<br />

Help chart and deliver a quality educa<strong>ti</strong>on for <strong>Wyvern</strong> boys<br />

Membership of the Prep Leadership Team (<strong>Wyvern</strong> and Lindfield Preps combined)<br />

Membership of the <strong>Wyvern</strong> Leadership Team<br />

Requests made by Head of <strong>Wyvern</strong><br />

C. THE EDUCATIONAL STRATEGIC PLAN, AIMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE COLLEGE<br />

The Educa<strong>ti</strong>onal Strategic Plan for 2010-2014 and annual reports, report to parents on our ini<strong>ti</strong>a<strong>ti</strong>ves to date, and<br />

the Aims of the <strong>College</strong> are to be found on the <strong>College</strong> website: www.newington.nsw.edu.au/about<br />

It is a condi<strong>ti</strong>on of employment that staff comply with all the policies and prac<strong>ti</strong>ces of the <strong>College</strong> and that support<br />

a genuine apprecia<strong>ti</strong>on and commitment to pastoral care;<br />

a willingness to par<strong>ti</strong>cipate in the school’s co-curricular program; and<br />

demonstrated knowledge of Work Health & Safety (WHS) and safe work prac<strong>ti</strong>ces.<br />

<strong>Newington</strong> <strong>College</strong> has a Teachers’ Agreement and the remunera<strong>ti</strong>on for this posi<strong>ti</strong>on is currently at Coordinator 2<br />

level on the <strong>Newington</strong> <strong>College</strong> salary scale and is inclusive of the base co-curricular requirement.<br />
