February 1 st the annual LT Ball Invention Convention was
held. Fourth and fifth grade inventors presented their
inventions and used sales pitches to convince judges that
their prototypes would be a good choice to earn an
opportunity to represent our district in the upcoming
The TMS Power of the Pen Wrote Their Way to the TOP!
8 th Grade 7 th Grade
The 7th and 8th grade Power of the Pen teams competed in district competition at McKinney Middle School in
Yellow Springs on Saturday. We were moved early in the year from the Botkins district to McKinney, where we
felt the competition was even tougher than we had experienced in previous years.
Each team member writes for three 40 minute periods on three different prompts they have never seen before.
They are judged on creativity, voice/unity, structure/ideas, and figurative language.
Our 7th grade team coached by Bridget Hughes and consisting of Taylor Hudson, Victoria Nordquist, Lauren
Wyant, Abby Walker, Laura Fink, and Gillian Schlotterbeck took 2nd place overall behind perennial writing
powerhouse McKinney Middle School. Victoria was the overall 7th grade winner with three straight ones
(highest score on each piece of writing) and Honorable Mention for Best of Round in rounds 1 and 3. Taylor
Hudson took 3rd place.
Our 8th grade team coached by Amy Armentrout and consisting of Mary Kate Lee, Tori Livesay, Faithe Walker,
Mya Vyas, Jenny Peele, and Sydney Ignet took first place overall beating McKinney’s 8th grade team! Tori was
12th and Faithe was 2nd with an Honorable Mention for Best of Round for round #1.
Both teams will see action again on Saturday, March 23rd for regionals at Fort Loramie Middle School.
Qualifiers from regionals will go on to state Memorial Day weekend at the College of Wooster.
DP&L and Vectren Came to TMS to Teach about Energy
Tipp students were chosen to be part of the
Be E3 Smart (energy efficiency education)
program facilitated by the Ohio Energy
Project, OEP, and funded by Dayton Power
& Light and Vectren Energy Delivery of
Ohio. Tipp was selected to participate in
this innovative program and Mrs. Wysocki
received training directly from OEP
designed to build student leaders and save
families money. The Be E3 Smart program
teaches students how energy is produced
and used. The students will also learn easy
ways to conserve energy and increase
energy efficiency in their homes.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
CLASSES ENJOY “CUTTING
THE RUG”!!!
TMS’s Advanced Physical Education students were moving their
feet to Dance Revolution as part of their State standards dance
unit. They enjoyed using a Wii gaming system that was purchased
through TMS’s fund raising activities. The students really
enjoyed addressing this requirement in a new and “high tech”
way.
“LOCAL AUTHORS VISITING THE TIPP
CITY LIBRARY”
Join us at the Tipp City Public Library to welcome local authors David Crawford and Judy Bruns as they share
their books and experiences. The programs are open to everyone, no registration required.
Saturday February 16th at 1:00pm David Crawford, an engineer at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base who lives
in Tipp City will discuss his novel “Delta G”. His unique career includes assignments in Ballistic Missile
Engineering, Nuclear Shock and Blast testing, Subterranean Engineering, and advanced propulsion also working
at the infamous military base known as Area 51. These experiences provide Crawford a captivating insider
perspective for the characters of “Delta G”. The novel begins with an investigation by the Air Force to discover
the cause of orbital shifts and targeting errors occurring with ICBM warheads, satellites, and space shuttles
unfolds, the amazing secrets of the universe are discovered. The search for these answers takes Major Dave
Sheridan on a twenty-five year quest from the top of the world, to remote deserts, tropical waters, and onto
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. What he finds involves gravitational and bizarre torsional waves that shape the
very fabric of time and space. Follow Major Dave Sheridan and Delta G program as they discover and harness
these forces.
Saturday February 23rd at 10:30am Judy Bruns, published in newspapers, magazines, and other media, is now
meeting with positive reviews in the world of children’s books. "Hattie and Her 43 Cats", her most recent
children’s story, addresses the onset of Alzheimer’s with the compassion and sensitivity fitting for a young
audience. Her first book, "Donnie, Lost in the Cornfield", follows an event in the life of a young, mentally
handicapped boy. More on the Stories... "Donnie, Lost in the Cornfield" It’s bad enough to be lost in a cornfield,
but what if you’re a child and mentally handicapped, too? Here’s a children’s book to show that love reaches
beyond disabilities. "Hattie and Her 43 Cats" In Hootin’ Holler County, Hattie’s house is in disrepair, and her
rambunctious cats need tending to. It doesn’t help that her mind is failing her. Bruns reminds us that we are never
to forget the dignity of the human person, in spite of the disease.
