The <strong>Tipp</strong>ecanoe High School Gymnasium To Be –<br />

“The Pat Wampler Gymnasium!”<br />

Pat Wampler will be recognized for her service and support of the <strong>Tipp</strong> <strong>City</strong> EVSD by<br />

naming the high school gym the “Pat Wampler Gymnasium”. We certainly hope that the<br />

entire community will come out and help us thank Pat Wampler for all that she has done<br />

for our students, schools, and community! The first 1,000 people in the gym will receive<br />

a special commemorative spirit towel to wave and show your support for Pat Wampler<br />

and our Red Devils!!!<br />

Murray and Wharton Honored for Competing at State!<br />

Fall sports participants Lindsey Murray and Sam<br />

Wharton were recognized during halftime at the<br />

February 3 rd Boys Varsity Basketball game for<br />

competing at the State level. Murray placed 10 th<br />

at the Girls State Golf tournament and Wharton<br />

was the State Runner Up at the Boys Cross-<br />

Country Meet. Congratulations for a great<br />

performance!<br />

Wray in Hall of Fame!<br />

High School Principal, Chuck Wray, and former <strong>Tipp</strong>ecanoe Wrestling<br />

Coach was inducted into the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association<br />

Hall of Fame at the GMVWA Holiday Tournament in December at the<br />

Nutter Center. Mr. Wray was honored during halftime at the Feb. 3 rd Boys<br />

Varsity Basketball game for his accomplishments.<br />

Mr. Shomper Donates Goofy Challenge Check!<br />

Athletic Director, Matt Shomper raised money for the <strong>Tipp</strong>ecanoe Athletic Boosters by<br />

running the Goofy Marathon in January. He raised $2300 by running 42.4 miles! Mr.<br />

Shomper presented the check during halftime at the February 3 rd Boys Varsity Basketball<br />

game.


Niswonger to Play Soccer at<br />

Cincinnati State!<br />

<strong>Tipp</strong>ecanoe Athletics and <strong>Tipp</strong>ecanoe Boys Soccer<br />

are very proud to announce the college signing of<br />

senior Logan Niswonger. Logan signed his letter of<br />

intent, Saturday, February 4 th , 2012 to continue his<br />

soccer career at Cincinnati State in Cincinnati.<br />

Wee Devil Cheerleaders Wowed the Crowd!<br />

The <strong>Tipp</strong>ecanoe High School Cheerleaders<br />

hosted the Lil Devil Cheerleading Event for<br />

ages 4 to 6 th grade. Sixty-five Wee Devil<br />

cheerleaders performed during halftime at the<br />

Brushing and Flossing Taught at Nevin Coppock!<br />

Dental hygienists from Dr. Volcke’s Dental office in Vandalia came to Nevin Coppock Elementary and talked to<br />

the first graders about brushing, flossing and healthy food choices.<br />

Nevin Coppock hosts January Ringmaster Breakfast!<br />

Each month, Nevin Coppock teachers choose two students who are giving their Best Performance every day!<br />

They base that on Reliability, Responsibility, and Respect. Those students are treated to breakfast from the<br />

Alex King Advances to Regionals<br />

L.T. Ball 4 th grader, Alex King made the most free throws last weekend at the Knight of<br />

Columbus District Free Throw Contest in Troy! The next step in the competition is the<br />

Regional Contest at Lehman Catholic in Sidney.<br />

It was a BLAST!!!....The BLIZZARD BLAST!<br />

Last Saturday night was the annual Blizzard Blast at L.T. Ball.<br />

High School Students Help with Math Counts!<br />

Math Counts has<br />

been made<br />

possible by the<br />

generous <strong>Tipp</strong><br />

Foundation and<br />

the <strong>Tipp</strong><br />

Educational<br />

Endowment grant<br />

money received to<br />

pilot this math<br />

tutoring program. The program targets LT Ball students, nominated by classroom teachers, who would benefit<br />

from additional math support. Tutoring is provided by Math Honors students from <strong>Tipp</strong>ecanoe High School. The<br />

program meets 2 days a week for an hour after school. The tutor/student ratio is ½, one tutor working with 2<br />

students. The program design concentrates on the application of math concepts in the real world in addition to<br />

drill/skill work.<br />

TMS Power-of-the-Pen Teams Advance to Regional<br />

Tournament!<br />

On Saturday, February 4, the 7 th and 8 th<br />

grade Power-of-the-Pen teams competed in<br />

their district tournament at Botkins Local<br />

<strong>Schools</strong>. Power of the Pen is a competitive<br />

writing team that attends tournaments and is<br />

judged on their creativity and uniqueness of<br />

writing.<br />

The 8 th grade team placed 1 st out of 18<br />

schools! Out of about 100 writers for the 8 th<br />

grade, Alisha Bhaqwat received 1 st place,<br />

Jesse Hemmelgarn received 3 rd place, Paige<br />

Phillips received 4 h place, Emily Doll placed<br />

5 th , and Emily Gootzeit placed 14 th . Alisha<br />

Bhaqwat also received the award “Best of Round” on two of the three prompts she wrote.<br />

For the 7 th grade team, Mary Kate Lee received 11 th place. Those that placed within the top 15 are guaranteed to<br />

go on to the Regional Tournament being held on Saturday, March 10 th at Sidney Middle School. About half of the<br />

writers that competed on Saturday will go on to the Regional Tournament. Those results will be sent out soon.<br />

The 7 th grade Power-of-the-Pen team is coached by Amy Armentrout, and the 8 th grade team is coached by<br />

Bridget Hughes.<br />

Throwers won AGAIN!<br />

Sam Kronour, Sammie Rowland, Aaron Hughes and<br />

Connor Case won the District Free Throw Contest and<br />

will advance to the Regional Free Throw Contest at<br />

Lehman Catholic in Sidney. Contestants had to get the<br />

most out of 15 free throws.

SWIMMING – Girls swimming will be at Trotwood for the Division II Sectional Meet. Swimming starts at 3:30.<br />

WRESTLING – Wrestling will be at Bellefontaine for the CBC Championships. Wrestling starts at 10:00.<br />

GIRLS BASKETBALL – Girls BB will be hosting a tripleheader. 9 th at 11:00 vs. Beavercreek; JV at 1:00 vs.<br />

Stebbins; and Varsity at 2:30 vs. Stebbins. We will be honoring our girls’ basketball seniors and their parents<br />

immediately following the JV game. We will recognize Senior Ellise Sharpe during the senior ceremony for<br />

scoring her 1,000 th career point vs. Tecumseh on Saturday, January 14 th . During the game, you can witness senior<br />

Morgan Miller score her 1,000 th career varsity point. After last night’s 21 points against Greenon, Morgan is<br />

currently sitting on 999 career points. Finally, with a win, our girls will lock up the CBC Championship and we<br />

will celebrate that accomplishment with them after their victory!!<br />

BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT TICKETS:<br />

Don’t forget that girls and boys basketball tournament time is also presale tournament ticket time. Boys and girls<br />

basketball presale tickets are a HUGE BENEFIT TO OUR STUDENTS as 50% of all presale basketball<br />

tournament ticket revenue gets returned to <strong>Tipp</strong>ecanoe Athletics. Please support our students by purchasing<br />

your tournament tickets in advance. Girls’ Basketball tournament tickets will be available this weekend at our<br />

two home basketball games. The boys’ tournament draw is this Sunday. Boys and Girls Basketball tournament<br />

tickets will be in Clark’s Compounding starting Monday from 9:00 to 5:00 Monday – Friday. Presale Tickets are<br />

$6.00 for everyone and again, $3.00 from every ticket will come back to THS. Tickets at the gate are $7.00 and<br />

NONE of the gate revenue gets returned to THS so please save yourself a buck per ticket and HELP OUR<br />

STUDENTS by purchasing your tournament tickets in advance at Clark’s.<br />

UVMC Center for Sports Medicine<br />

Sportsmetrics Knee Injury Reduction Program Survey<br />

The UVMC Center for Sports Medicine would like your feedback regarding the Sportsmetrics Knee Injury<br />

Reduction Program to be able to best meet the needs of the female athletes at <strong>Tipp</strong>ecanoe <strong>Schools</strong>. If you are the<br />

parent of a 7 th – 12 th grade female athlete, please complete the online survey at the following link,<br />

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DDVYB6L. The Sportsmetrics program is a comprehensive training<br />

program specially designed for female athletes. It has been scientifically proven to reduce knee injuries and<br />

improve performance for sports that involve pivoting, cutting, or jumping, such as soccer, basketball, and<br />

volleyball. Throughout the year, the UVMC Center for Sports Medicine offers free Sportsmetrics screenings to<br />

determine the risk for serious knee injury. In the summer, the six week Sportsmetrics training program is<br />

offered to reduce female athletes’ risk for knee injury. If you have any questions about the Sportsmetrics<br />

program or would like to schedule a free screening, please contact the UVMC Center for Sports Medicine at (937)<br />

<strong>Tipp</strong> Wrestlers Traveled to Columbus!<br />

Last Friday, the middle school and high school wrestlers went<br />

to Columbus to watch Ohio State beat Michigan. After the dual<br />

the boys were permitted to go onto the mat!<br />

Healthy Start Wellness Challenge!<br />

<strong>Tipp</strong> <strong>City</strong> School teachers and staff have started another Wellness Challenge! As part of the EPC<br />

(Educational Purchasing Council) – Alere Wellness group, the District participates in health<br />

programs to promote healthy habits. This quarter everyone is challenged to eat a healthy<br />

breakfast and get seven hours of<br />

sleep. Some of the buildings are<br />

adding other elements to the<br />

challenge such as “Walk It Off<br />

Wednesday” and “Five Minute<br />

Walk”. It’s a fun way to<br />

promote good health and save<br />

on health insurance premiums.

Former members of the Ohio State Football team are coming to <strong>Tipp</strong>ecanoe High School to<br />

take on the <strong>Tipp</strong> <strong>City</strong> Area All - Stars on Saturday, March 3 rd @ 7pm in the THS gymnasium!<br />

Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from all <strong>Tipp</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Schools</strong>, Clark’s Compounding<br />

and any high school baseball player. Tickets will be sold at the door for $7 so save yourself<br />
